I think it looks like you have an awesome app. (I'm Bates '08, and got in with lowers SATs and not-quite-so stellar grades.) Just make sure you have a killer essay, and I'd be shocked if you didn't get in.

Thanks! Just wondering where are you from. And if it is not in the Maine area, how was the transition from where you lived to I guess the more relaxed area such as Maine.

I'm actually from Jersey, too -- Hillsdale, about 30 min outside NYC. honestly, i've enjoyed the change of scene a LOT: people are much more relaxed up there (as you said), and that does kind of rub off. I mean, I might not want to spend my whole life far from a real city, but it's been an awesome change of pace. Really nice people too.

I will be going to Bates this fall....I think the thing with Bates is that they really do look for well-rounded people. The interview and essay are critical. When you write the "why Bates" essay, really think about what makes Bates different from every other small competitive LAC. It isn't enough to simply say that it's a small environment and the like. Also, I reccommend sending in supplementary material, such as your best in-class essay. I also applied ED I, which I believe helped a lot. If you want to know my stats, I'm not shy...so feel free to pm me and I'll tell you as much as I can. I also did not send in SATs.
