I just finished up my junior year in high school and was wondering what my chances are for University of Michigan?

White Male
Washington

Unweighted GPA- around a 3.6
second semester GPA junior year- 3.7

Work load- 5 AP classes, 1 honors class ( my school only offers 2) and have been advanced in science since freshman year. (Skipped freshman science) ( i am advanced in every subject except math)

Just took the acts so i don't have my scores yet but i predict around a 27-31

2 years national honor society- next year officer
3 years of leadership
over 100 hours of community service
3 years of tennis- 2 years varsity

i also want to start a key club and a french club at my school ( would this help my chances)

Senior course load: AP lit, AP bio, AP world, French 3, Precalc, Ceramics,Leadership, yearbook

I have also done a short exchange program in France

I know i will be able to get really good teacher recs.

I plan on majoring in Athletic training

Does anyone have information on athletic training at University of Michigan?

i would consider u an average applicant (the gpa is a tiny bit on the low side). wait for the ACT score. a 31 is obviously much much more impressive than a 27. as for the clubs, they should not count that much but definitely a little impact. i think colleges know that people start/join clubs not out of interest, but to be able to put on their college app. your course load is good (just like most other good applicants). for you, i would say a 31 or better puts u in for sure.

Thanks musashqa for taking time to reply!

what musashqa says is true. I don’t know how much starting clubs will help you, because you will be a senior, but it’s worth a shot. It can’t hurt, right?

Starting clubs could help contribute to your leadership skills, however it really won’t make up for your grades and scores. GPA is low, try bringing it to a 3.75-3.8 range first semster senior year. Hopefully your ACT score is a 31. If not ,think about retaking it in the fall, like early/mid September, so you will get scores back in time to make EA deadline on 11/01. OOS applicants usually have pretty high stats, so competition maybe tough.

I’ve heard of quite a few people who get into U of M without having such good grades and extra cirriculars-

your foreign exchange program is a HUGEEE plus
but I might do something on the safe side if I were you? like a job or internship

he’s right. michigan is not very selective, so i think your chances are pretty good. anyone can get into michigan if they apply early enough. if you get waitlisted or rejected, attribute this to randomness in applicant choice.
