Chances for 2012 summer? :I

Im worried about my chances, I think I wont make it.. USF is my ideal school I love it there I visited and haven't thought about any other school since. Although its my ideal school, my grades don't show it. I am going to be a senior this upcoming year. I have a 2.8 UW GPA and 3.0+W GPA. 1070/1510 on SAT which I only took once so far. I have extracurriculars: President of Future Educators of America at my school, 2yr. member of Key club, 2 year member of FBLA, 2 years of Guitar club, as well as Powderpuff. I don't know what it is recalculated and I am also taking 3 classes online this summer for grade improvement so my UW GPA will be 2.9-3.0 after. I just need some help, some advise, SOMETHING! I would do any of the programs they put me in FSI, SSS, anything..

I know this sounds like I am begging but I just really want to get in, whatever it takes.

Thank you all in advance.

It’s tough getting into any of Florida’s public universities with less than a 3.00 GPA. Check the attached matrix to see where you stand on chances for admission. Retake SAT and take ACT to bump up your scores-USF superscores tests. Grades and course rigor are most important criteria for admission. For next year in high school take as many AP and dual enrollment classes as you comfortably can to make your transcript more appealing to USF–you likely will get deferred initially so get good grades fall semester to help your chances. Get your app in early in August–USF does rolling admissions and early birds have a slight advantage for chances. Inquire about the summer admission programs now to see if you can get in that way. USF really won’t look too much at your EC’s–concentrate on doing well this summer and next fall in class to improve your GPA. Good luck and get to work bumping up your grades to show upward trend.

I forgot to put that. I took 1 AP class this past year and I am taking 2 next year so that’s a success predictor, I took about 5 honors courses over the past 2 years, freshman year I took zero, and now senior year ill be taking another 5. I want to get my application in as soon as i finish my online classes so I am working hard. I know when its recalculated ill have around a 3.0 so that’s a start. Also, when I am applying it asks what campus am i applying for and the only one it shows is USF st. pete. Do you know anything about this?

Like Lizard said, it’s tough to get in with a GPA below 3.0. You will probably want to apply after winter break then, when your gpa is recalculated. Don’t slack off your senior year, they can take back their acceptance if any of your grades drop below a C (some friends of mine learned that the hard way and ended up in CC). Check your success factors and see how you do.

USF and USF-St. Petersburg are separately accredited institutions that operate independently of each other but are both part of USF systems. The below link has explanation of USF Systems and links to different locations in Tampa (main campus), St. Pete, Sarasota, and Lakeland. You are probably mostly interested in Tampa which is www.USF.edu.

Hi All, Im new to using this and am hoping to get into USF. Went on College tour in Feb and loved it…Dont want to go anywhere else. Does anyone know what the odds are for out of state acceptance is? I have a 86 average for my classes and am in top 20 % of my class. I am a bad test taker…SAT 490reading 530 math 570writing Only took it once taking going to take it again in the fall after taking a SAT prep course this summer…any pointers on how to stand out on my app…

They are currently looking for out of state students, so… It’s still difficult to get into any state university with >3.0 gpa. AP classes and honour societies are a great way to increase your chances.
