Chances for 2014 - How am I doing?

I attend a competitive private school in nyc. My school does not class rank or calculate a GPA, so i'll just post my grades in my various classes. Also, I expect to graduate cum laude (top percentage of the class). It should be known that my school doesn't offer ap english or ap history classes, though it offers the tests and many students choose to self study for them. The most courses a student can possibly is 7 (usually 6 academic courses and one art). Finally, I will be pursuing becoming a National Merit Finalist (I think I have a god shot).

Private school is highly competitive, so you’re got one good thing on your resume there. The only grades that you have are As and Bs which is good. A B can be understood when you go to a private school, because of the rigor already in the curriculum. Since English seems to be your worst subject, you should try to get better grades in that class in 12th Grade. You should try to make yourself look like you are very good at English in your essays. But don’t be down, your English grades are good, but not great. Even though some people on CC will tell you to retake your SATs, since they suck, I think they are above average. But currently, your test scores are okay for an Ivy league school. You are not going to be denied at an Ivy League school just because of your test scores. Just looking at your test scores, they might reject your and might not. Your test scores will not guarentee you admission or rejection. Your ECs are great!!! Overall, you’re pretty well rounded.

Chances-
Harvard-reach
UPenn (Wharton)-reach
MIT-reach
Tufts (Engineering)-match
University of Texas (Business Honors)-in
Vanderbilt (Engineering)-low match
Emory-match
Boston University (Business)-in
George Washington University (Business)-in

Good luck. Chance me:

Thanks :)

Thanks man, any other opinions?

I’d have to know your school a little better, but usually at private schools, Bs are okay… in which case, I say:

Harvard- reach
UPenn (Wharton)- reach
MIT-reach
Tufts (Engineering)-low reach… but I think you have a decent shot… 55-60% shot?
University of Texas (Business Honors)-pretty much in
Vanderbilt (Engineering)-good shot
Emory-good shot
Boston University (Business)-in
George Washington University (Business)-in

You need to get SATs up if you want in at those reaches… and see if your school has naviance, because if so, that will help you get a very good idea of how you are doing

Good luck!

Coming from Trinity school ( my cousin goes to Collegiate!) the information that you find on college confidential is completely useless. Go to your counselor, and he or she will have common data sets based on where applicants are excepted at your school. Honestly, the acceptance rates for top private schools to HYPSM is a lot higher than any public. Most private school kids ( stereotypically) have legacy+Brand name+money+more money=success.

Thanks guys, anyone else?

Your grades are solid considering that your school is difficult, your SAT scores are solid, your ECs look fine (do you want to continue wrestling in college?)…your SAT IIs are a bit low for the most selective schools, but that’s not always a deal-breaker.
I’d say that your list looks pretty good in terms of reaches/matches/safeties. Best of luck!
