Chances for 2015

My dd is very much interested in several of the women's colleges for Class of 2015. Since she is quite busy with her many activities I help a bit with research etc. like many parents.

Basic stats: SAT(first take) 2060 combined

Class Rank 5/184 at competitive catholic high school

GPA:3.8

AP's:US History, Calculus, English Comp, French

EC's:Primarily student theatre with leads in at least three plays/musicals; also Chorus, French Club, NHS, Film Club(Pres); contributor to Literary Magazine; Yearbook next year.

Peer Minister

Part-time job as hostess at local restaurant

Excellent writer so I look for strong essays.

Reccs. likely to be very good.

I think she would excel and thrive in a small-college, liberal arts atmosphere. Your thoughts?

Wow her stats look pretty amazing, and I do agree that your daughter would most definitely enjoy and gain a lot from a liberal arts setting.

I usually don’t believe in ‘chancing’ anyone, but given your D’s case, I think all she needs to stress about is her essay -make sure it details whatever it is that makes her WANT to attend that particular college.

Does she intend on pursuing theatre in college, because that’s one of my main concerns when I applied…after much research I would say that Barnard provides the most opportunities theatre-related. I had met with a Barnard rep and she was really helpful in laying out my options, and even connected me with a member
from their drama troupe.

Of course, I am not ruling out the other Sisters, I am transferring to MHC in the fall and have read up extensively about the facilities available. The 5 colleges in the consortium have several productions annually, so there are many opportunities to be involved, if theatre is really something she enjoys!

Two Mount Holyoke graduates won the Pulitzer Prize in drama – Wendy Wasserstein '71 (in 1989) and Suzan-Lori Parks '85 (in 2002). I think both of them attended the Yale School of Drama after Mount Holyoke. Suzan-Lori Parks also won one of the MacArthur Foundation “genius” grants. Wendy Wasserstein was one of the most influential women playwrights who used her Mount Holyoke experience as the foundation for a number of her plays, most notably “Uncommon Women and Others” and “the Heidi Chronicles.”

I’m a senior in high school who was a bit less involved in school than your daughter and received the offer of admission. I think your daughter has a great chance at Mount Holyoke.

The Mount Holyoke in Montpellier France program is absolutely fantastic!!! If your daughter wants to continue with her French, MHC has amazing prof.s and she can also take French classes at Amherst - who also a couple of really wonderful prof.s. While in Montpellier, the women attend University Paul Valery with French Students, live in the center of the city with all the shops, cafes, and the organic market along the aqueduct and are totally spoiled!
Mount Holyoke women are absolutely amazing and every parent should dream of offering their daughter the personal confidence and opportunities just waiting for them at MHC.

ps - you can tell I’m very proud of my daughter :)
