Bases on my ACT writing, my essays should be epic.

Colleges: (A lot, I know, I’m narrowing it down…)

University of Washington
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Whittier College
Seattle Pacific University
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
Ohio State-Columbus
UC-Santa Cruz
Stanford
University of Arizona
Iowa State
James Madison University
University of Delaware

…and I think that’s it.

So chances??

I feel like that your downfall was that you took wayy too many AP classes and could not handle the workload. Best wishes.

University of Washington – Reach
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign – Reach
Whittier College – Never Heard Of
Seattle Pacific University – Same as Whit
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities – Match
Ohio State-Columbus – Never Heard Of
UC-Santa Cruz – Reach
Stanford – … I’m sorry but 4.0 + 2400 students get turned down every year.
University of Arizona – Match
Iowa State – Low Match
James Madison University – High Match

Don’t waste the application fee at Stanford or UIUC.

The people on the UIUC sub-forum made it seem very possible…

Not with your GPA. You’d be <1 percentile, which means that unless you have some extreme hook, you’re not getting in.

You should have not taken all those AP’s it killed your GPA and your chance of getting into a really good college.

G.P. Burdell, you are so wrong.

A. First off, UIUC doesn’t use GPA AT ALL in admissions. They go entirely by class rank.

B. 4% of the 2008 admitted class for UIUC was in the BOTTOM half of their high school class.

C. There is no place where UIUC’s “GPA” percentiles are provided. The only percentiles they release are middle 50%'s, and for class rank.

D. And the specific College at UI (which i did forget to mention, my bad) that I’m applying for has ACT mid 50 25-30 and Rank 68-86. So while my rank may fall in the lowest decile, my ACT is the average, then add in EC’s, which would average to me being at the 30th-40th percentile overall as an applicant.

And last time I checked my math, 35>1.

If you don’t listen to anyone and know all this what’s the point of your post?

uhhh because i clearly knew that he was wrong? And I don’t know all of it.

i would say if you finish out strong (like 3.5+ strong), you have a chance at UIUC. It is a very good school, but for know JM is more of a match for you.

^ i agree to the above poster, just try.

but why do i have a feeling that they are not gonna like ur personality…

Brady, according to UIUC’s common data set from 2008-2009 both rigor of coursework and gpa are considered “very important” while rank and other factors are considered “important”. I would call it a low reach for you if you can bring up that ACT (mid 50% is 26-31 and you’d be a stronger candidate on the high end) some (mid 50% is 26-31 and you’d be a stronger candidate on the high end) and write some epic  essays.

I would say if you can pull it up to at least a 3.0, then ASU would be really good. You could get into UofA no problem, but you’d probably like ASU more (with the whole swim team thing and everything).

You may be totally correct about UIUC, I don’t follow the school, but I would not use that as a defense. What percentage are recruited athletes? Probably in the neighborhood of 15%, so even most of them were not in the bottom half of their class or even below 40%. Does this school give legacy preference? Preference to URMs or low income students? Most good state schools have several groups that can have lower scores.

University of Washington: Rejected

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign: Rejected

Whittier College: Rejected (they’re the hardest in washington)

Seattle Pacific University: Idk.

University of Minnesota-Twin Cities: Rejected

Ohio State-Columbus: Rejected

UC-Santa Cruz: Rejected

Stanford: Rejected

University of Arizona: Accepted

Iowa State: Accepted

James Madison University: Accepted

University of Delaware: Rejected

I agree about the APs. You shouldn’t have taken so many, as it killed your GPA, and you didn’t do great on any of them (at least sophomore year anyway)

I’m in Washington so I know SPU sort of. I’d say it’s a reach, easier to get in than UW for you

I could care less what UIUC uses. I can look at the actual admitted student data. That’s more telling than anything else. Using the students admitted last year, you’re in a fractional percentile, which is pretty much the football players. So unless you can run a 4.4 - 40 and have a 24" vertical, you’re out of luck.

What percentage of those come from very small schools, such as a 40 person magnet IB school where nearly everyone had a 4.0 U/W? What percentage of those had extreme hooks - recruited athlete, child of a very wealthy donor, recovering from a major disease, etc? How many of those low rank students had 34+ ACT scores to boost their application?

Not to mention that you’re out of state…

They’re all over the place. Check any credible website with college data and they usually register 1) self-reported numbers of people from that site and 2) reported data from the school.

Your ECs aren’t good. Your GPA is in the less than 1 percentile, and your ACT is average. If you had an ACT score well over the 75th percentil and a GPA just under the 25th percentile, maybe. But there’s way too much of a discrepancy.

The last time I checked my math, you invented that 35. You’re awfully arrogant for someone with such low statistics.

I’ll tell you what - if you’re admitted to UIUC, I’ll pay your tuition. How about that?

haha, ill chip in a few too burdell

Wow… well excuse me for TRYING to get in to my first choice…

…And what is that supposed to mean?
