…other things i cant remeber right now

i know its hard to get in out of state…but i just wanted to know

bump...........

its a private university, in-state or out-of shouldnt matter in the least...

o yea i copied and pasted it from another thread so thats why

It's tough to get in, but I think you'll make it. As a URM I'd apply RD to Brown and a number of peer schools - Dartmouth, Cornell and haggle over financial aid.

thanx for the response

I feel that you will really need your senior year to help you so def. apply regular decision. Also, being a urm is going to help you THAT much. You def need to rock out you first semester senior grades. I know a lot of talented urms esp. males who want to go to brown, so def don't rely on that. But otherwise, you have a pretty good shot despite you sophmore year (do you have an explanation for that of any kind?? b/c i know a lot of AA males at brown almost all didn't have a single C+ (not to stress you out) and had the hardest course load as well) I think a lot of people have the misconception that being a minority, colleges expect less from you or you can be somewhat underqualified and still get in, where that is just not the case. That being said, since colleges don't just look at grades, you need to rock senior year and your essay/teacher recs (meaning get good recs), because they look at the entire person when evaulating an applicant. Because being a urm minority helps you somewhat, u do have a shot. The only thing you can do now however, is keep up with your ec and grades.
Good Luck!!!

is NOT going to help you THAT much (my b...that will teach me to post something before editing)

some of ur ECs won't help out that much like the National Leadership Forum and who's who thing . . . they are just out to get your money, but by the looks of it you have a VERY good chance. A senior african-american guy last year got into princeton with a 3.7 weighted and with a worse SAT score than you have.

I agree with techy....Do great first semester of your senior year. My stats were similar to yours (2180, 3.98) and I'm an african american male, but last semester my gpa was a 102.67 (yeah, I pretty much worked my butt off). I don't think I would've gotten in any other way. Good Luck and I think you have a great chance!

Your scores are high in comparison to most African American students, but your grades are a little uneven. I think your best shot would be to apply early and include with your application some kind of explanation as to why your grades went down in tenth.

Whatever you do, don't try to push the blame onto someone else. Most colleges would prefer to see you take personal responsibility for poor marks rather than cast yourself in the role of a victim.

The outside achievement isn't all that unusual, and that's one of the reasons why ED is your best bet.

aww, youre an AA? Gimem a break, you go to a private Catholic school in DC, doesnt seem like you need that much of a leg up

That was really unnecessary and completely ridiculous senior200610.

care to support that statement?

he made it a big point that he's african american, i just think the point is moot. he doesn't seem poor or disenfranchised

since when did african american become synonymous w/ poor?

i knew this was going to happen. I know i'm not poor, colleges do have a goal for a certain amount of minority admits, thats the only reason i said that.

I dont know if thats pro or against my statement? He's using AA status as a main selling point (title). Most people do this because AA gets a leg up because of poor prejudices. He doesn't seem poor. thats all.

At the Ivies and the elite co-ed LACs, the biggest beneficiaries of class makeup engineering are white males. If they went solely on merit these schools would be what? 40% Asian and 65% female?

How much does your school weight for honors courses?!?! Gee-whizz it must be a lot!

beprepn, says who?
