<p>I am applying to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Oberlin, Tufts, Williams, and U. Chicago. I have already been accepted to the SUNY schools I applied to.</p>
<p>Here are my stats:</p>
<p>SAT: 710 math, 680 verbal, 660 writing, 2050 total
SAT IIs: 770 World History, 720 Biology E, 650 Chemistry
APs so far: 5 World History, 4 AP Biology. Presently taking AP US History and AP French Language
Essays: Deeply Philosopical, my teachers enjoyed reading them. One was about the first time I sang a solo in a concert (see my hook below)
Teacher Recs: Glowing, they said I have been their best students ever (History, Music, Biology)
Counselor Rec: Very positive
Rank: In the top tenth
School: A public magnet school in NY
GPA: 3.7/4
Hook: I am a bass classical singer. I have been singing for several years, and have won awards for my singing. I have submitted a CD to each school. Not many HS students are true basses, as I am.
ECs: Bass Section Leader of my school's chamber chorus, which I've been in since freshman year, 2-year stint as treasurer and administrator of school's online newspaper, as well as a freshman mentor in NHS
Honors: Honor Roll, 1st student in History and Music, NHS</p>
<p>Harvard/Yale/Columbia: Reaches. Harvard and Yale are big reaches with your SAT.
Oberlin: Match
Tufts: Match
Williams: Reach
Chicago: Reach/Match</p>
<p>"Glowing, they said I have been their best students ever (History, Music, Biology)"</p>
<p>so if recs say you've been their best students ever, they're considered "glowing"? well, i guess mine are glowing then( i was actually very crushed by how my teachers didn't provid good enoguh examples)</p>
<p>I actually laughed at how terse his response was.</p>
<p>Well, if your teacher considers you their best student ever, and writes that in your rec, I am not sure what adjective to use other than "glowing". Thank you for your responses.</p>
<p>Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Williams, and U. Chicago - all highly unlikely. Your M+V is well below the median for all these schools and your GPA compared to the rest of the applicant pool for these schools is just average. Your bass singer hook may help (who knows what these schools may be looking for), but I wouldn't count on it.</p>
<p>You're competetive for Tufts and Oberlin and my guess is you'll get into at least one of the two.</p>
<p>I am in the top tenth of my class, in a class of ~900 students at a very competitive public magnet high school that does not rank because everyone's GPAs are so high.</p>
<p>It will totally depend on whether your singing is indeed a hook. Otherwise I agree with those that say no chance. Your scores are too low (yes, a 680 and 710 will keep you out without a hook), a high school with tons of high GPAs is just one with grade inflation, not a great school.</p>
<p>So work the music people and if they want you, none of your stats will keep you out.</p>
