Hey John - Your SAT m and & w are in the middle of the middle 50%. Your ACT is in the middle of the middle 50%. I’m not sure that your EC’s, while very good, are real spectacular. You need a very good essay that really sells you. Tell a story that makes admissions want you on campus. I think ED helps but be sure you are willing to commit. If you apply anywhere ED, it should be your clear #1 choice. I think your stats give you a reasonable shot. If you are accepted, UR will provide for 100% of demonstrated need. With and EFC of $3k they would provide for the balance in the form of grants, loans and work. It will not all be “free money” but they are very generous.

And my standard disclaimer - My only experience with UR admissions is my daughter who will be starting her Freshman year next month. She was accepted ED. Don’t put too much weight on what you are told by people not directly involved in the admissions process!

Good luck to you!

Agree with PAV on the stats, but I do not see much in the way of ECs, especially leadership within your school. Any sports? Music, art, etc? Clubs? Schools want to see depth of involvement that leads to leadership positions. Is your only involvement in your high school the attendance review board? They want to know how you spend your time outside of school. Work? Volunteer? I would also comment that 40 hours of community service over four years is very low. If you have visited and love the school, then by all means, apply early decision (binding). Make sure you meet your counselor and establish contact with him/her. Good luck!

^^^ I agree
