Chances for a Canadian?

Chances for a Canuck?
I've gone through a lot of these chance threads and now am just wondering.

Female, Chinese, and from Ontario public school (our school sends one or two to an Ivy per year)

Waiting on ACT score.
SAT I Composite: Below 2050 (rather not disclose)

SAT II's were low.
Biology M 690
Chemistry 660
French 650

I'll be redoing Chemistry and French in January. I'm leaving Biology as is.

We do not offer APs, but I will be taking AP Chemistry, AP micro and macro economics. I have never taken a chemistry course before, and therefore am self studying; I have also done one of my SAT IIs on chemistry.

Other things:
Various stints volunteering (nothing consistent, just at festivals or marathons)
Currently working with Oxfam Canada to produce a revamped brochure and poster for their "stamp program", which sells donated stamps to help projects in developing countries
Designs information sheets for the technology department at school, and this is handed out to parents on a frequent basis

Work:
Worked at a retail store that sold picture frames and digital prints, so I digitally restored photos, as well as handled cash and stock
I've done freelance graphic design work
Currently with an up and coming clothing line, which is going to be hosting a debut launch during L'oreal Fashion Week in March (I produce technical drawings for the lead designers to work on, and I help with the marketing material)

Rec Letters:
Excellent; one was talking about school involvement and how I am as a person (responsible and optimistic), one was short and concise and said I was a free thinker and unique, one was talking about how I grew as a person and began from when I was very introverted and angry and progressed to how I became a leader and changed dramatically

Essays:
Common App - Talks about identity and how one person meant a lot to me but after we parted ways, I figured out a lot of things on my own and made use of my experience away from home (when I was at Harvard) to find my own self [if anyone wants to read, send me a PM]

Generally, my common application essay explains why I slipped up a bit in junior year in terms of grades.

Harvard's essay - I talked about leadership and how I found myself to be a leader because before junior year, I never thought much of myself. This also partially explains why I took on a big leadership role during my last two years in high school

I find it hard to describe my essays, I put a bit of a spin on these topics though.

I plan on entering as a psychology major for most of my choices.

What are my chances for Boston College (management), Cornell (psych), Cornell (hospitality), Dartmouth, Harvard, Northeastern, Amherst, Boston U, NYU, Princeton, Yale

Question regarding NYU, what is the competition like to get into Stern?

Given some of my standardized scores, I know that these scores may be out of my reach...

A lot of theses schools are reaches for everybody. I think you would have excellent chances at Northestern and BU. Stern is very hard to get into. I would look to add some other schools like Fordham, Syracuse and SUNY Binghamton. All are very good schools and are not as tough to get into as some of the ones on your list. Best of luck!

Sweetness I was born in Edmonton, Alberta!
Oh Canada...my home and native land....

Chances wise try to improve your scores if you can. PM your essays please.

HYP seems to be way out of your league. But I suppose anything is possible...

Just out of curiosity, which HS are you going to?

Woburn CI.
My ACT Score is 30 (26 English - I didn't pace myself well enough and that is my fault, 30 math, 32 reading, 32 sci)

I'm wondering if I should do SAT II Lit? Would that help compensate because I know that my low English score was because I wasn't pacing myself. Aside from that, if study for Lit I'm pretty sure I can do fairly well...

wow

excellent EC!!!

i think you are in at at least 2 of them

pm me ur essay if you want =) fellow Torontonian here! =P

Boston College (management), Cornell (psych), Cornell (hospitality), Dartmouth, Harvard, Northeastern, Amherst, Boston U, NYU, Princeton, Yale

The Ivy League are just luck for you. I suppose that by applying to 5 of the 8, you would hope to get into one of them. Do not count on it.
Amherst, same thing as above.
Boston College (management) is harder than the college itself.
NYU Stern is very competitive.

Your best bets are Northeastern and Boston U.

your ecs are very strong and the essays sounds really interesting...i think you have a good chance at all the schools.

no one can really tell the Ivies I think.
But the others, I think they are in.
can u break down your sat scores?
or is "(rather not disclose)" saying you dont want to?

I rather not disclose. But basically, my ACT scores (percentile wise) are higher in math and in reading whereas with writing, the SAT was higher but sitll not good enough.

I'm wondering if I should take literature in January and swap out one of the sciences (I'm decent with chemistry in terms of understanding theory, but not fast enough with the application).

reject at ivies/amherst/stern,maybe bu/bc/northeastern

u have amazing ECs but ur SAT scores are a bit low for the Ivies. i'd say that u'd need 700+ on most sections to be a competitve applicant...but still best of luck!

btw, i'm a canadian applying to the US too! i was accepted early into a school so PM me if u have any questions =)
