chances for a current junior????

hey, i was wondering what my chances are at Northwestern for next year. I go to a fairly competetive prep school in NY. (an average sat a little over 1200 on the old, 1800 on the new, 99% of grads attend a 4 year college) I have around a 3.9 unweighted gpa. I will have 7 ap classes by graduation, 3 done by the end of this year. All my other classes are either honors or advanced, including 2 languages, spanish and ancient greek.

Sat 1 scores-
Math- 760
Critical reading- 690
Writing- 770

Ap Euro (as a soph)- 5

SAT 2's
literature- 660
US history- 750
Biology- 590 (took it in 9th grade was told it wont hurt much)

your stats are very similar to mine. i had a 1430 sat m/cr you have a 1450. i had slightly better sat2's but you have way more EC's. our gpa's are pretty much the same and your courseload is very satisfactory.

i got in as a south asian (i personally believe the quota system is harder for asians, but its debateable) and i know that has no bearing on someone elses chances but i think you know that you are a strong candidate either way. admissions is a crapshoot (yes i know, cliche) and you have to get a LITTLE lucky. all things considered, i think you have a very strong candicacy and chance of getting in. congrats.

chance but dont count on it!! :(

I had similar stats and was waitlisted.

non-URM, non-athlete

got in with similar/lower stats (32 ACT/IB Diploma/3.93/good ECs/HORRIBLE essays and interview)

I wouldn't count your "prep school background" as anything that would help you get in. Think of how many public school kids get into the Elite schools; they didn't get in because they went to a private & pricey, prep school.

i wouldnt say it gives me an advantage so much as that it emphasizes that the courses i was taking were challenging. Also, i don't know what NU's policy is but some colleges critique the applicant's school in addition to the applicant.
