Chances for a few top schools/matches/safeties

So I’m applying Yale, UPenn, Dartmouth, Cornell, Penn State and Pittsburgh for instate, and Mount Marty College- what are my chances at these schools? I’m planning to major in pre-med.

SAT I- Did not take
ACT- 28 composite (27,28,28,29,8 essay) not that bad considering the proctor left the window open during the test and it was allergy season so I was sneezing non-stop so it was hard to focus. I think if I retake I can get a 34+
Sat II- 680 math I, 650 chem
GPA- 4.08
AP- World (5), Calc ab (4), chem (3), phych (4), enviro (2, my teacher sucked…)

ECs-
High school field hockey (4 years, team captain)
NHS (Treasurer), Science NHS (Secretary)
3 week research internship at nearby college
Debate (4 years, team captain)
Women in Science and Engineering (3 years)
Various community service activities (food bank, habitat for humanity, hospital, etc.)

Awards-
Student athlete award in 11th grade (can’t name for privacy reasons)
School Honor Role (10th, 11th)
School Community Service Award (11th)

Teacher Recs-
My psychology teacher absolutely adores me, so I’m sure that letter will be a 10/10. Not sure about the others, prolly good but not very personal

Essays-
Common app is about how I helped get my friends clean from drug abuse. Very emotional, English teacher said it was one of the best she has ever read. 8/10
Haven’t looked at supplements much yet.

State- PA
School- Public
Gender- Female
Income- $100k+ per year
Race/Ethnicity- African American
Hooks- Idk, my cousin goes to UPenn if that counts as legacy

Yale is my dream school, but I don’t know if I would get in. Would ED help my chances?
Also I’m not sure about Cornell. I don’t really like it, but I might apply just to say I got into an Ivy League

Thanks for your help! I’ll chance back!

@Yalegirl333 A few things to consider:

  1. You do not major in pre-med. Pre-med is a series of courses you must take to get into medical school. You major in something like biology or chemistry while taking classes that meet the premed requirement.
  2. Your cousin does not count as legacy.
  3. Yale has SCEA, not ED. Applying early does not really help anyone’s chances. Early apps have a “higher” acceptance rate because of 1) less people and 2) stronger applicants.
  4. You sound extremely pretentious right now. “I might apply just to say I got into an Ivy League”. Wow. Cornell, like all the other Ivies, is a complete crapshoot. Just less of a crapshoot, but still. Your test scores are hardly anything to “wow” about. Especially since you have to submit two subject tests to the Ivies.
  5. Do you have UW GPA that we can take a look at? Is the GPA you listed weighted?
  6. I don’t know what grade you got in the APs where you got 2 and 3s, but they might send off red flags for grade inflation.

There’s almost no chance at Yale, Cornell, Dartmouth or UPenn.

I also believe that you need to focus on schools which are less selective that those Ivies. Your stats are not that close to their average requirements.

You possess an air of cockiness in this post that is absurd. You got a 28 on the ACT, and you think that because you were sneezing it hurt you 6 points? Excuses, excuses… You have 0% chance at any Ivy League school even if the ACT comes up a little bit. I advise you to lose your entitled mindset.

Probably another allergy season during SAT2.

Agree, there is no evidence in your post that you are capable of a 34. Your subject tests and all the ACT sections are a lot lower than that. You currently have zero chances at the Ivies.

YaleGirl333- First off, congratulations on your academic achievements thus far. I’m the Assistant Director of Admissions at Mount Marty College and can respond directly to your question in regards to us. If you have higher than a 2.0 GPA and an 18 ACT, you will be automatically admitted once you have applied and submitted transcripts and test scores. You clearly exceed these requirements with your Academic merits. In order to be admitted to MMC, you must apply and have your high school mail us an official high school transcript and test scores. Once we receive those, you will be admitted. We also have guaranteed academic scholarships that are based on GPA and test scores. A 4.0 and a 28 ACT would garner you an Academic Excellence Scholarship of $12,000 a year if you are admitted prior to March 1st. This is renewable each year as long as you maintain a 3.0 GPA meaning it is a $48,000 four year scholarship! You would also qualify for our Prestigious Academic Scholarship Day where you would come and interview on campus in order to be considered for our Presidential Scholarship which is full-tuition for all four years!!! I can provide you with even more information if you want to contact me. Best of luck finding your perfect college and hopefully we’ll have the opportunity to host you and your family here at Mount Marty College for a visit. Take care.

Your test scores are weak. Currently, the Ivies are out of reach. You should be able to get into your other schools. Good luck!

I find it creepy when the admissions officers post here… Maybe a PM is better? People post quite openly on these forums, and the sense that admission officers are tracking posts can squelch honestly.

Sorry, auto-correct – meant “honesty”.

You are most definitely entitled to your opinion. I was not trying to be “creepy”, but was trying to be helpful. My goal is for every student to find their perfect school even if it isn’t my Alma Mater. I am just learning how to work this site, so it is good to know I could have sent a PM. Thanks for letting me realize that was an option. Have a great day.

Actually @TJSmithMMC, you can’t send someone a PM until you have a certain number of posts - I think it’s 15 but I’m not sure. So you would not have been able to PM the OP.

As already previously mentioned, your test scores would prevent you to making a serious application to the top schools on your list. Even with a pronounced hook, you would be outside the basic scores of your application advancing in the admissions process. By way of history, my middle D is at Y, and I previously help an appointment at the school.

Further, you should be aware, that the average improvement on the ACT, and this is nationally, is little over 1 point. So, to improve 6 points, while certainly doable, is somewhat rare. I suggest you make a list in which you have some real match and safety schools, and then certainly sprinkle in some reaches. Best–
