Chances for a Film Geek

1870 out of 2400. Verbal 620 and Math 660 on SAT I
500 on SAT II U.S History
Plan on taking SAT II MATH I
3.3 weighted GPA
MY grades frst quarter as a senior are a mixture of mostly D's and C's with one or two B's and of course an A in gym ahaha. I have 7 classes btw
but this is because from 4 honors classes I jumped to 3 Honors and 2 AP's. I'm having a hard time getting by. Im hoping colleges will see I'm challenging myself. But I'm afraid they might think I was careless.

My guidance counselor told me she wouldn't send my 1st quarter grades unless they ask for it after she sends the transcript and then add an explanation along with my 2nd quarter and midterm grades.

My EC. I dont have alot
Volunteered at Boston marathon
Film Club
vacation bible school
stock club
JSA
Anatomy club
Drama club
literary magazine
writer's block

First generation college student

BTW keep in mind NYU and Syracuse require a portfolio. Hopefully my script will amaze them.

Colleges I'm looking at:
NYU-Tisch
Boston UNiversity-COM
Syracuse University-SVA
Ithaca College - Roy H. Park School of Communications
Ohio University (Athens) - School of Visual Comunication
Emerson - Not sure if I'm going to apply. I dont feel like doing more essays...

It apprears that your counselor is on your side, and wants you to succeed. It shows great initiative to increase your workload as you have. I am not familiar with the avg.gpas and test scores of the schools you are interested in attending, but my guess is that you do. Go with your gut, and make the effort to reach for your goals-Good Luck!

BUMP! Dumb ten character rule...

With a 3.3 weighed GPA, moderate ECs and an SAT score far under the 25th percentile, I'm pretty sure it'll be a reach. That said, you still have a shot.

all of them are reaches? Vertigo could you be specific?

I know a guy at tisch right now. 3.0 uw, easy courseload, 1900 SATs(?). Everything comes down to your portfolio at NYU. Have some versatility and try and show them your creativity/style. How many shorts or documentaries are you sending?

Also, check out florida state and chapman for film!

He doesnt have a chance at all at FSU. One of the hardest if not the hardest programs to get into.

Temple U. has a very good film program. My cousin is a film major at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) He loves it so far.

bump 10char

BTW whats FSU?

there's not much to really say. for film schools so much is dependent on ur essays and portfolio, that academics and out-of-film ec's are really only one third of the admissions process.

if you have posted your films on youtube or google video or whatever post a link and I'll watch it!

director's cut. I just got into film during the summer so I dont really have videos. All i have are a bucnh of scripts. ALthough I am helping the school make a year movie and helping my friends finish their projects.

Also for NYU all you need to send is a script/storyboard and a dramatic essay.
