Chances for a full ride/something close?

Hi, I am a rising senior and will graduate in 2014 from high school. I was wondering if my stats were good enough for a full ride or something close to that at any college. I am really looking for a college which would offer me full tuition, room, and board.

Are your parents higher income but unable/unwilling to pay for college, or are they lower income and can’t afford the cost of college?

My parents are lower income and so cant really afford to pay too much for college. They will defiantly help a little bit though.

The most recent list is here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/16145676-post285.html</a></p>

There are a few schools for which you qualify for automatic full rides:

Alabama State
Coppin State
Prairie View A&M
Florida A&M if a Florida resident (full tuition rather than full ride for non-residents)

Raising the ACT or SAT score may open up more full ride possibilities.

Are their some schools which may be a bit more competitive ( not automatic) but have a good business school which offer good scholarships?

You may want to look into Oxford at Emory as it has both excellent financial aid, and one of the top business programs in the South. Here’s a brief description of how it’s connected with the main Emory campus [Oxford College - Oxford and Emory](http://oxford.emory.edu/a_distinctive_place/oxford_and_emory/index.dot)

I am guessing its extremely hard to get into the Goizueta Scholars program?

I’ve only know one Goizueta Scholar. He was a cross admit to Wharton and at 18 had a resume that would trump most 30 year olds. Remember, merit scholarships at a school like Emory are extraordinarily competitive.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1461983-competitive-full-tuition-full-ride-scholarships-2.html#post15889078</a> may be a thread to look for non-automatic full rides.

But you may want to have some of the automatic ones on your application list as safeties.

Thanks for all the help. I had a few a few questions about choosing a college.

What is the difference between a privite university and a public one? Why does privite cost more?

Is it better to go to a low ranked school with full ride or go to a high ranked one but pay more?

The treads stated above are only on public universities. Do you guys know any privite universities which would offer full rides?

Do you guys know a public university which would offer a full ride and would not be a "Historically Black College? "

Can I apply to the university which is a “Historically Black College” if I am not African American? Im Asian.

What is your home state?

Living in Maryland :

Applying to UMD Collegepark ( Good Bussines School)- they wont offer too much aid

Thinking about applying to Towson and Salisbuy but both dont offer full rides.

Re: #12

Public universities have more explicit subsidies from the government. But they do not necessarily cost less (after scholarships and financial aid), especially for out-of-state public universities.

Depends on how much debt would be involved. In general, it is not a good idea to take more debt than the Stafford loans ($31,000 for all four years). Also, some subjects and career paths are heavily school-prestige-conscious, while others are much less so, so there is some “it depends” on your intended major and career path.

Howard (in the automatic list) and Duke (in the competitive list) are private. There are other private universities in both lists as well.

Your choices of full ride universities would increase if you got higher ACT and SAT scores.

You do not have to be black to attend a historically black university.

University of Maryland - College Park does have a competitive Banneker / Key scholarship that may be up to a full ride, but it is for the top 1% of the entering frosh.

[OSFA - Banneker/Key Scholarship Program](http://www.financialaid.umd.edu/scholarships/banneker_info.php)

Have you checked the net price calculators on the Maryland public universities to see if they can be affordable on need based aid?

GPA : 3.769
SAT Scores: (really bad, i know) Total: 1830
M and R: 1290

Full Rides are based largely on test scores, so as you can see, yours need to be higher - especially for schools that aren’t HBCUs.

What is your home state? You need to apply to your state schools so that you’ll get need based aid and state aid.

State schools are cheaper because they get state aid.

Hey guys… so I had another question,

If I get a full ride ride to a small privite university which included tutition, room, and board, is it better to go to the privite university to go to a state university?

I was thinking of going to a privite university but it isnt that well known. Will that hurt my chances of getting into grad school or getting a job after i complete my undergrad degree?

If the college is accredited it will not hurt you getting in to grad school. The primary things they look at are grades and scores (GRE, etc).

What does it mean if a college is creditted? So if the college is accredited regionally, does one region better ranked than another? What is the difference if a college is ranked regionally vs. nationally?
