I am going to apply as a freshman for the graphic communication major at Cal Poly. I also could apply for regular communications but graphic is what i really want. The average gpa at my school for getting into Cal Poly is 3.63 (weighted) and a 28 on the ACT.
My info:
GPA unweighted 3.49, weighted 3.84
CSU/Cal Poly calculated gpa unweighted 3.44 and weighted CSU/Cal Poly gpa 3.62
I have four years of yearbook, two years as being an editor for yearbook along with next year being the editor-in-chief. I have been to journalism/communications conferences and communication/ yearbook camp.
I also have work experience and other extra circ. on top of that.
Considering all of this. Do I have good chances?

Comparing your stats to last years average suggests you are a long shot for SLO. Please apply but, also apply to other schools, perhaps UCR, CSULB, Pomona, Chico and Fullerton.
Good luck.
My gpa comes from a rigorous well known private school in LA not from the AVERAGE PUBLIC SCHOOL
@notinthemood9 SAT or ACT score???
Right now 26 but I’m taking it again
@notinthemood9 With that score I agree with @NCalRent. You will want to get it up to at least a 30 or you won’t even be competitive with the other applicants.
I also agree with @NCalRent’s assessment unless you are able to get your test scores up into a competitive range. Graphic Communications does have a higher acceptance rate than regular communications so your chance may be higher but the bottom line will be how your MCA score compares to all the other applicants.
SLO doesn’t care what school your GPA came from.
Certainly don’t care to hear how fabulous it was compared to those you sneer at IN ALL CAPS. Attitude is a key element of admissions.
I got in so thanks for your input
