Hey there, I was wondering if y’all could give me some feedback on my chances for admittance into American. I’m interested in Political science (but what American university student isn’t? Oh, yeah, the IR ones), and American obviously would be a good choice in terms of education and internships. It seems like a reach school fiscally and academically for me, but I’ll be applying regular decision, so some of my resume might change:

GPA: ~3.7 (W)
Rank: School doesn’t rank
SAT: 670 CR; 560 M; 620 W; 11 Essay (Taking again on October 1st, very likely to go up)
ACT: Took in September, probably didn’t do well enough to send in.

So, how do you think I’ll do in applying to American? Thanks.

And you can do a pretty good job chancing yourself for most colleges and universities if you google the name of the institution and the phrase “common data set.” When you’ve found the institution’s common data set, look at section C for information on freshman admissions.

While it’s true that there’s a lot of pointless, ridiculous, uninformed “chancing” on College Confidential, it’s absurd to suggest that people who engage in it won’t get into college.

Besides, Boston1994 is obviously a new poster. You know that AU publishes its Academic Data Reference Book every year, and I know it, but what on earth makes you think that all high school seniors either know it or should know it? Same thing for Common Data Sets. I learned about them on College Confidential. I doubt I knew about them yet when I had fewer than 30 posts, as Boston 1994 has.

How’s a person supposed to become informed without asking for information?

By looking down the same page of the forum to all the questions about “Chances” and seeing what information has already been provided. By using the button on the upper righthand side of the page that says “Search This Forum”.

Boston1994 - I’m unable to tell you what your chances are. Your SATs do seem a little low, but not outside the range for people who have been accepted. My best advice to you is to be sure to show interest. Ask for an interview, tour the school, call your admission rep with any questions you may have. Interest counts at AU. Good luck!

Mini- I may do lousy in the admissions process, but with an attitude like that, I’m thinking you’ll do ‘lousy’ in life. Keep your imperfect perception based on a post on the internet of me to yourself, thank you.
The rest- Thanks! I’ll keep my options open, as AU seems like a bit of a stretch at this point. Still waiting on my October SAT scores, though. Thanks again!

My D is a soph at AU. Your stats are very close to hers, so there’s always a chance. I do agree that you should show “interest” by doing an interview, attending campus events if you can, etc.
