any one else? bumpity bump

DON"T DO ED AT RICE!!!

My sister didn't apply ed at rice, and she was bummed when she found out that several of her friends with lower stats got it cuz they applied Ed so she was angry at herself for not applying ed with later turned out good cuz she got into Stanford and Rice RD, and peole say you have slim chance at Stanford no you have a great chance, stanford is not unperdictable, my sister has explained to me that they don't look for people that are #1 with 2400 SAT's they look for people that are special, they want talented and unique people and people that show leadership and give back to society, like starting aids club and such but ur help towards the peolple you helped looks good, and by the way my sister is doing biomedical engineering at stanford and hers stats weren't that great , Sat 2080, rank 1/860, 5 Ap Spanish test, 4 Ap Cal BC, 4 on Physics 2, Sat 2 math 2C 790, Physics 740, Spanish 760.

Nice to see another hispanic jew!

Seems no one here is sure whether being Hispanic and Jewish helps or hurts. I wonder if there has been any official comment by any colleges on that question. What about being half hispanic, and half arab jew. Like your father is not hispanic but fully jewish, and ofcourse, you are jewish if your mom converted before you were born. So that makes you technically half, and half, with a middle eastern name. How would that work?

Also, don't colleges take you as being URM if you have like 1/4 in your background, so you don't have to be fully hispanic then? Its a tricky situation, because on one hand you'd like to talk about how you have a diverse background - one of two different worlds - and yet, you think that even mentioning one of them can hurt you in some way, negating the nice essay that could come from it, or even worse, negating your URM status.

omg! im a hispanic jew too!!! (my mom is half mexican, and my dad is full jewish) but where do we let admission officers know this?? write the essay about it or something??

lol, maybe we should start an exclusive club on CC. Hispanic-Jews ONLY. Three members already. :D

lol, funny A-san

First off, I have something to tell everyone who posted on this thread. "Pollocampero6060" is my younger, 14 year old brother who was sooo curious to know my chances that he secretly logged in to my account (I will change my password, of course) and posted my chances.

Secondly, I found out yesterday that I got into Rice, and I cant wait to attend next year. yay!

ilovebusiness-I appreciate the warning you were trying to give me, and I know you meant well. I must say, however, that Rice is my first choice and stands out by a large margin compared to all other universities I would have applied to(possbly with the exception of Hopkins, as I loved it there)

With that said, thank you to everyone who posted my chances and to those who couldnt offer my chances but who made positive comments.

Finally, I will now go kill my brother....

jk

MIT - slim chance

Rice (ED) - good chance
Johns Hopkins - fair chance
Carnegie Mellon - fair chance
Cornell - slim chance
University of Texas at Austin - good chance
