Job/Work Experience: Acting as CEO of self-started non-profit organization. No income

Summer Activities: Will be traveling to Alaska to help manage my organization.

Hooks: URM with high SATs, not from New England, no one from my school has applied (at least not in the last 5 years) to Wesleyan

State (if domestic applicant): North Carolina
School Type: Private
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Gender: Male
Income: ~$150k

Weaknesses: GPA obviously. I’ve had a lot of social issues with moving between states and such. I know colleges don’t accept that as a valid excuse, but that’s the truth.

Essays: Assume they will be really good. (I’ve already begun working on them)

Reflection: Obviously my GPA is low for Wesleyan, but I feel that I can partially balance it out with my other strong attributes (SATs, ECs, essays, hooks) since Wesleyan so heavily promotes ‘holistic’ and diverse admissions. I will be applying ED1 2015

I can’t advise you as to your chances, but, your family income is just at the point where prudently, you should run the net price calculator for any elite college you,re applying to and show the results to your parents.

So as @circuitrider says none of us can really tell you what you want to hear, but fwiw, you’re Male and Hispanic, 2 key determinants as Wes crafts a class that they will like, alot. Your SATs are clearly good enough to get you strong consideration. Applying ED1 would be a good route I would think, being from a Non-New England state will help. FWIW I would think you stand a strong chance especially ED1.

@jfak34, I have no idea. Wish I could help. I do, however, view @circuitrider’s views on all things Wesleyan as being pretty informed.

I was accepted in the 2014 Early Decision round to Wesleyan with very similar stats as you (Hispanic male, 2260 SAT, 3.1 GPA, solid ECs) although my course load may have been more rigorous my GPA is 3.1 versus your 3.3-3.4. I also had some bumps in the road that contributed to my low academic performance.

I think the essays were critical in my acceptance. If you have any questions feel free to message me.
