Chances for a Junior?

Hey guys! I’m new around here, just a junior in high school. But, I’d like to get ahead and get a feel for what I need to do or keep on doing to get into the CNAS school of UCR. I’m extremely interested in UCR as either a Biochemistry major or a Chemistry major.

My UC GPA is 4.04 GPA, while my UW GPA is 3.73 GPA.

No idea what my Senior year is going to look like, but my GPA shouldn’t change much.

Highest ACT (out of three times) so far is 26. If I don’t need to, I don’t plan to take the ACT again.

40+ hours community service after this year due to a program my HS allows students to do. With this year, I am taking/have taken AP Chem, AP Lang, AP Euro, and Honors Chem. Senior year, probably still going to do more volunteering and at least two more AP Classes.

I don’t do any sports! (Like, at all) Will that hurt my chances on college applications? Thanks guys.

Since the UC’s continue to become more competitive each year, it is in your best interests to try and bump up your ACT. You are currently around the 50th percentile but it will definitely not hurt to try and raise it a few points, plus it may give you more UC options with a higher ACT score or try the SAT instead.

UC’s do not consider Senior year grades in their admissions review. Your application review will be based on your UC GPA at the end of Junior year, your ACT/SAT and SAT Subject test scores, HS course rigor, essays and EC’s. You do not have to do any sports to have quality EC’s.

Keep up the good work and come back at the end of Junior year with your updated stats.

A couple more ACT points would help but, you are on track to be a very competitive applicant.
Good luck
