Just to note: Thx for your input Anarchy, I do think it's important to be warned about that crap.

The negative sides don't bother me. imean, i go to school with a bunch of rich white preppy kids right now so to go to syracuse wouldn't be any more of a shock. u just seem so negative. u talk down about the only school that gave u an opportunity (supoosedly cuz the only other option u had was some college in chicago). To me any college that damn near put my ass through college, giving me $40,000 to attend after u screwed around in high school, shouldn't be talked about like that. As much as i dislike some of the things at my current prep school, they have given me nearly $100,000 to attend and i would never put them down the way u do syracuse.

Im not mean, just some constructive criticism.

...this thread is getting stupid.

hehehe :)

I do understand what you are saying.
However...

I aspire to be a politician (many would say that my pessimism is a barrier to this). So, for many of the programs I have wanted to attend, I've had to keep my mouth shut when asking people who I totally disagree with to help me out (Chamber of Commerce, full of rugged-individualist Republicans, for example). But I grit my teeth, and I hate it. I swear that, once people listen to my lead, I can be a voice against that which is wrong. So, by the same standard, just because Syracuse is helping me out financially, does not mean that I turn a blind eye to its short-comings, and nor do I feel that I need to be its mascot. It is -reality- (in my eyes), what I point out. Money or no money, those things do not change.

I appreciate the info, Anarchy. Syracuse is on my list (and my list is small, so that means something), and I go to schools' forums to check out what students have to say. If I wanted to hear all of the bright, shiny things about Syracuse, I could go to their website, get a brochure, or take a tour. Does Syracuse really want kids who are so impressionable one comment like this can turn them off of the school forever? I take what Anarchy has to say into account (but also with a grain of salt, because I know the area I'm interested in - journalism - has an amazing academic reputation)...and maybe if there is a Syracuse student who has had a different experience they should speak up, not try to cover up.

anarchy, believe it or not, i feel almost just like you. with the high school slacking, etc. stuff. but it was because i'm doing music so i could care less about the competitive taking all APs 4.0 gpa stuff. i got into my program, supposedly hard to get into, a pretty nice scholarship (although i don't want to be greedy cause my parents can pay full). and that's my reason for going. there are pros and cons of course. i probably would have loved to go to NYU (if my interview was a bit better and if i got in of course ED). and i'm not really sure if i would have looked foward to kill myself over studying at some harder college, but that's another story. i have your same opinions about the prep/partying aspect and i'm probably the most un-mainstream person. i'm not sure what i'm trying to say but i guess anything can happen first semester if i don't like it here. i also feel awkward being there only two days and knowing where everything is..
