Chances for a junior

Hey everyone, I know I may not exactly have the scores for William and Mary but what do you think my chances may be? Also, is there anything I could do during my senior year or over the summer to boost my chances?

location: Virginia
race/gender: white/female

GPA:
freshman- 3.56 (1 honors course)
sophmore- 3.64
junior- 3.78 (1 AP and 1 honors)
senior- decent schedule (1 AP)

SATs:
1060/1600 (560m and 500v)-- I know it's awful, I'm taking them again June 3, 2006 after my tutor and a ton of studying.

OTHER:
4 years of field hockey (possible captain)
1 year of soccer (sportsmanship award)
1 year of track and field
placed 1st in science fair
3 years of national honor society
2 years in DECA
85 hours+ of community service
internship at an elementary school (want to major in education)
played years on a soccer team outside of school (captain)

thanks!

You have a decent chance.

I would definitely make your course load for Senior Year harder and raise your GPA much higher to around 3.7 (Weighted under FFX County System), as well as your SAT Scores by at least 200.

I think you really need to boost your SATs (but you know that already). If you get around a 1300 or higher you should be set since you're instate. A stronger senior schedule would help for example I took 5 APs my senior year but your school might not offer that, so W&M will compare your schedule to what the hardest schedule at your school is. If your schedule is comparably decent and you write decent essays with a personality then you are in. Remember to have personality though.

it honestly depends how many people apply from your school. i applied ed and got deferred, then rejected normal admit. 20 people applied from my school, but i had a 4.444, 5 aps, a 1280 (old sats), and a cazillion ECs. it sucks that you're a girl, they have a high ratio of girls so often favor boys, example a boy from my school got in with a 3.8 and high sats. they are such a toss up. they also don't favor instate kids as much as uva, i mean your chances are better b/c you're instate, but uva really loves instate kids. good luck! if you don't get in, they take a ton of transfer applicants.

okay thanks - would u say W & M is more difficult to be accepted to than UVA?

Actually, both U VA and W&M are both required by law to have as their admitted class 67% instate students. Because UVA is larger, it may seem that they take more instate, but the numbers are legislated.

UVA has a higher percentage of instate students than WM does

No, it doesn't. Both UVA and W&M have classes composed of 2/3 instate, 1/3 out of state.

CollegeBoard.com states that out of UVA's first year students 71% of them are in-state while W&M is 67%.

That's because at UVA, of the pool of admitted students (offers made to 2/3 instate and 1/3 OOS), more of those instate students chose to attend.

But when selecting who to admit, state schools must offer admission to a class comprised of 2/3 IS, 1/3 OOS.

The schools have no way of knowing/planning who will accept an offer...thus the actual class does not reflect the 2/3 1/3 breakdown.
