Chances for a Junior?

My chances of getting in are pretty slim, but I’m going to try.
I’m applying ED for next year

GPA: 3.4(UW)/3.6-3.7 W [Pretty bad, probably one of the reasons I’ll have a slim chance of getting in]
PSAT: 200
SAT: not sending in
SAT II: taking Math IIC and Chemistry
ACT: 32 C [29 E, 30 S, 32 R, 35 M] Planning to retake because I know that my english score can be way higher.
APs: taking Chemistry this year
My school is one of the best in New Jersey (public school wise).

Extracurriculars: (to currently Junior Year)
3 years Fencing [Frosh yr JV, Soph & Jun yr V]
Spanish Honor Society; inducted this year
Chinese Honor Society; ditto
Red Cross Club; 1 year so far
Tutor for Chemistry [from school]
Secretary of Enviro Club; two years
President of the Leo club; two years (member for three years)
Volunteer for the library (+100 hours)
Book Buddy (summer 2007)
A lot of volunteering through the Leo Club.

I’ll probably be getting a job this summer as well as some fencing camp.
Next year’s schedule:
English IV Honors; AP Physics B; AP Enviro Sci; AP Calc AB; AP Stat; Chinese IV Honors
Spanish V Standard

So, I’ve been taking the hardest/semi-hardest possible schedule in my school.
What can I do to improve my chances, and what are my chances?

Nobody here can assess your “chances” of admission. And what you can do is earn the very best grades you can from here on out (not much time, though, to really pull up that GPA), make sure your application is interesting and focused and also do more research so you have a good range of schools to which you will be applying. Barnard is pretty tough to get into!

Best to you…

Do you plan to continue fencing in college? Are you a strong enough fencer that you would be potentially “recruitable”? You might have a hook if you would be a candidate for the Barnard/Columbia fencing team.
