Chances for a lame GPA

Hi everybody, I have been to CC many times before, but this is my first time posting. I’m obviously not as smart as many people here, but it'd be awesome if I could join some of you guys at Cornell.

I attend a decent public school and a local math and science center magnet school in Michigan. Oh yeah, I am Asian American with parents that attended college, which probably doesn't help.

GPA: 3.4uw, 4.1w this is the most obvious reason why I should be rejected...
Class Rank: 110/352 uw, 23/352 w, I guess a lot of people take easy courses…

Essays + Teacher Recs+Etc.: Should be fine, but probably not raving

SAT: 1500…(800m, 700v)

SATIIs: Math IIc:800, Chemistry:770, Physics: 720

AP’s taken (6 total so far): Statistics (10), US History (10), Calculus BC (11), English Lang&Comp. (11), Physics B (11), Biology (11)….with Chem, Lit, European history, and Spanish to come…

EC’s:
Piano-I’ve did several regional competitions, and made it to semifinals for the state competition twice, and performed in a honors recital at the state level…I auditioned for a summer piano academy and got waitlisted, lol…I’ve played for 9 years, and I try pretty hard, but it is very difficult for me to stand out in music.

Tennis-individually State ranked in the top 100 (not really saying that much but it sounds cool), and varsity letter

Chess-I’ve owned pretty well here, I don’t feel like listing all of my tournaments, but I’ve placed top 20 nationally, and entered lots of national and international stuff....uber geek right here :-)

Research-I did research with Pfizer Inc, and hopefully will have my research published. I’ve been to some random symposiums and such, and I'm entering JSHS....

I’ve also done a bunch of little clubs and such (founded 2 clubs in school), but they are not very significant. Oh yeah, I’ve done about 300 hours of community service, and hopefully that will increase this summer.

I suppose that covers the bare essentials, so if there’s any input about my Cornell RD chances, it would be awesome. ~Thanx~

dude wat r u worried about?!??! i have worst grades then that and i'm applying. but i also realise the chances of me getting in is = chances of me winning the lotto. so just cross you fingers and hope for the best.

bump~~~Plz and thanx

did you take the new SAT?

and I dont think they will look at your UW rank, that makes no sense considering people could take easy classes like it looks like they did and be ranked higher than you.

The GPA is low, but you still have a chance

I would hope you get in.

We all have your type of grades
...

we're known as "potential" candidates.

man i'm 22/411 i'm still applying... rd no less, and my stats match up exactly like yours, activities too, 'cept no chess yes debate

ckmets- They definitely do look at the UW GPA... I have been told that the unweighted GPA, when taking into account the difficulty of the courses, tells the adcoms what they want. They will not look so much at the weighted GPA, only because the Weghted GPAs are calculated differently at every high school. The only thing the weighted GPA tells the student is whether or not they are cutting it in the classes... It is up to Cornell adcoms, the reputation of the school, and the difficulty of the courses that will determine whether the low GPA will be counted against the admittant.

my gpa is worse than yours and i still applied :) your test scores/EC look very good. just apply if you want

I took the new SAT w/ my writing score 720, Essay: 11. Apparently nobody else in my school is applying to Cornell, so I guess that helps me a bit :-D. As for my school's history with Cornell, I think about 8 ppl got in, and 5 attended in the last 10 years. As far as the ivy league goes, Cornell seems the most reasonable in terms of down-to-earth standards of admission...apparently my guidance counselor thinks Cornell is a half-state school half-ivy league. LOL
