Hey guys. I apologize for posting a chance thread on this part of the forum, but if I posted this in the “What are my chances” section, it’d just get buried. Plus I’d like to know my chances specifically for CPP.

California Resident
UW GPA: 3.2
CSU/UC GPA: Around a 3.6
-I’ve taken 4 APs and 4 AP tests(AP European History, AP Calculus AB, AP US History, AP English Language)
SAT: 1830
-590 Reading 630 Math 610 Writing

I’m in 2-3 Clubs at school, but I’m not heavily involved in any of them. I have a part time job at a local supermarket(which I’ve been working at since last July) and I’m currently looking to switch to another retail store. I have around 30-40 volunteer hours, and I’m looking to boost that to 60-70 by the end of the summer, and maybe even 80-90 by application time. I was on the badminton team for a year, but I wasn’t very good, so I didn’t reapply for it. I’m taking AP English Literature and AP Calculus BC next year as well. I’ve been in my school’s honor roll every year since freshman year.

I also plan on majoring in Electrical Engineering. I realize that this major is impacted at CPP, so based on my current stats, do I have a shot at CPP? I’m also planning on taking the ACT and/or SAT subject tests this fall. Thanks for any input!

Your SAT 1220/1600 looks decent. I’d say if you wanted to retake to push for a 1300 and if you have a 3.7+ GPA I’d say you’re in. I’m not sure how the freshmen application is but if it is anything like the transfer application your involvement in your activities means nothing. For most CSU’s, it is just a numbers game.

@blake360 3.1 GPA weighted or unweighted? I think CPP only looks at unweighted GPA. If so, OP is below the average for the college of engineering which is a 3.51 unweighted GPA, but who’s SAT average is above the average (1156/1600).

Admission standards vary from year to year. Two years ago they had like a 40 percent acceptance rate. You can read the posts right here on CC to realize how difficult it was to get in. Last year was a bit easier as the university needed to get it’s enrollment up. Sat scores went down about 30 points. This year, it sounds like it may have been just as tough or even tougher than two years ago. What will happen next year is anybody’s guess, but my bet’s on admissions not getting any easier.

@bl4ke360 You must’ve had a good amount of ECs huh? Hopefully I have the same results as you did! CPP is my ideal spot right now. I loved the campus when I took a campus tour, it’s not too far from my home, but I’ll be able to have the full college experience by living in a dorm, and the engineering program seems very well ranked. I REALLY hope I get in.
