In. URM will make up for the weak SAT.

jpps, in one of ur earlier posts you said that you had the same m/v score that i did but you said that it was above average- like it justified your score...but with me it is weak and i have to rely on my urm status to make up for it...i know that my urm status will give me a leg up but i'm tired of how a lot of people on this board act as though the only way a urm has a chance is because of his urm status...

but thanks for the response though (seriously)

I'm not sure..... 3.33 unweighted gpa seems kind of low, your school must give you a lot of extra points for things like honors classes because we only get it for ap classes. I think it's kind of low though. Yea, if you can get that sat up, the urm should be enough.

shinobi, the 730 and 690 are fine. The 610 is what brings it down to below average. I would think that most successful Penn applicants will have 2100+, but since it's a relatively minor flaw, URM should make up for it (especially since African-Americans usually test lower--those are statistics talking, not me). That's all.

Don't take offense to what jpps1 said. For better or worse, race is a factor in admissions and you cannot be given a meaningful assessment without acknowledging it.

That being said, I think the UW GPA may sting. I would think most URM's that are accepted carry at least a 3.5+. With that being said, I think it might take higher test scoes to get you in. But it could happen. And with higher test scores it might not happen. Go figure....welcome to college admissions!

well, i'm rooting for you, b/c you got the same SAT's as me

sorry for jumping down your back jpps but that's how i felt/feel...thanks for all of your responses. jpps are u a student at penn...i'd love to hear about ur experiences there

Nope, not a student at Penn...but I would like to be come next year ;).

Are you a senior? Didn't you apply to Chicago this year?

Also, wouldn't being from the South help shinobi?

No...I'm from Quebec, and our education system (only in Quebec, not the rest of Canada) is different...high school runs from grades 7-11. Then we go to a place called CEGEP for two years, which is very similar to university. I applied to Chicago in my first year of CEGEP (for simplicity's sake, let's call it grade 12 of 13), and was accepted. I then decided that I didn't want to leave right away, and they didn't grant my request for a deferral of matriculation, so I decided to reapply this year, as well as to some other schools.

Oh, I see. Canada makes the American education system look so simple. :)

It's mostly just Quebec...you know, we like to be "unique" here because we're French.
