Hey everyone, what do you think my chances may be? Also, is there anything I could do during my senior year or over the summer to boost my chances because i know they're not great.

My uncle graduated from Dartmouth, he is going to write a letter to the admissions office, (would that even help?)
I am also planning to contact the field hockey coach up at Dartmouth.

thanks!

You look like a great student, but Dartmouth might be a bit of a reach for you. If there is any way you could take more APs or honor classes your senior year that might help. And study for those SATs!

It looks like you've worked hard at sports and at community service. If you could get recruited by the field hockey coach that could improve your chances of admission significantly.

A letter from your uncle might help a bit, but I doubt it would be a big boost.

Your internship at an elementary school seems pretty unique. Stick with it, especially since you want to major in education! Perhaps focus on getting more involved in community service relating to education.

Don't give up on Dartmouth but I recommend looking at other schools as well. Good luck!

You pretty much have no chance of getting into Dartmouth at this point. You need to really raise your scores and get some more notable ec's to have any chance at all. Sorry about how direct this is, but it's 100% true. Unless you are good enough at field hockey to start at Dartmouth as a freshmen and you are able to prove that to the coach, I would look at other schools.

Your best chance is to get recruited for field hockey. Talk to the coach immediately if you haven't. Unless your uncle was involved in your academics or another activity, another letter from him probably won't help just because he's an alum. There's a space on the application for you to put any relatives that went to Dartmouth. It's really important though that you get your application flagged by the coach, or else you're going to be compared to a much tougher pool where you probably won't end up on the better end of things.

D was recruited by several D3 schools for field hockey a couple years ago- she's a jr. at Amherst now. I think if you're looking to be recruited in FH you should consider D3 schools too. You'd pretty much have to be an All-American to be recruited by Dartmouth. D was All-Conference, All-Area (in Dallas/Ft Worth metro area), started Varsity 4 years, captain, 3 sport athlete etc. She also played on a Houston club FH team that won a National championship, was invited to several showcase camps in the summer, etc. Even with that, she really didn't draw much interest in D1. She did however have many D3 coaches calling regulary.

If you're a rising senior, which I think is the case, you'd probably know by now if any coach is interested in your talent as a field hockey player.

Gotta add tho...she was also a very strong student with the most rigorous course load available at a well-known prep school. Also, she had a 1540. Plus we're from Texas which helps a bit.

Anyway, it definitely removed the randomness of the process and she got in everywhere she applied- Amherst, Williams, Wesleyan, Middlebury, Bowdoin, Hamilton, W and L, plus 2 smaller D1s, Colgate and Davidson.

She decided FH at Amherst wasn't for her after all that, and she now does crew.
