I am afraid I don't have any matches, although I thought all the UCs should be since I'm in state.

Schools:
-HYPS
-Dartmouth
-Brown
-Duke
-Amherst
-Williams
-Northwestern
-Univ of Chicago
-Claremont McKenna
-Carnegie Mellon
-UC Berkeley (in state)
-UCLA (in state)
-UCSD (in state)
-UCI (in state)

To be honest, I dont see anything impressive other than the golf tournament.

good sats, pretty good ecs, good gpa. you're a high competitor for all of those schools, i imagine.

oh I forgot that I have had a year round job since the end of sophomore year (6/04). it's not a cool job but it is still 15hrs/wk.

To be honest, i see plenty of impressive things about your resume.

I'm sure HYPS ok well not SURE, but I believe you have a high shot of getting into one of the HYPSM, and if not.. berkeley is a good backup

Might want to add some Patriot League Schools like Holy Cross or Colgate as matches. HC has a great campus and is only 1 hour from Boston. Also the school has strong alumni network that helps in grad school placement and jobs.

anyone else? Completed discouraged after my rejection...

why are you putting yourself through this? life is abuot having fun, i know it's hard to live by that rule, but when you got your stats, and your acheivements behind you, one rejection shouldn't bother you that much. go and LIVE LIFE!
you'll be successful and you know it :)

Tetra, you find this impressive? Stop giving wrong messages and help this kid by being honest. I can make $350 in my sleep.

I have similar stats to you. Stats slightly lower...Top 10% instead of Top 5%, 2290 instead of 2330, Same # of AP/IB classes as you have AP classes, Same scores...

At the same time I have Varsity Cross Country/Track Indoor/Track Outdoor for 4 years...several medals and national qualifyings under my belt for that, didn't pursue recruitment though...possibly a mistake?

I had internships with top executives with 40-50 hour work weeks over the summers, extensive travel experience in every continent except Antarctica (alone), volunteer hours out the ass almost approaching thousand hours, fluency in Turkish/Spanish/semi-fluent in Japanese. Invested a lot of time into my Sculpture studies...

And to boot, Legacy + Recommendation of NY Admissions director on my side + minority status.

Got rejected. Applying to same schools. Almost exactly the same, minus the California ones + some more Northeastern ones. I hate life. Hopefully since I have Developmental Admit connections at other schools...namely Princeton and Georgetown I will fare better.

holyspirirt - i noticed you mentioned extensive travel. I have also traveled extensively, every continent but south america (i know, the closest one outisde US but still haven't been) and antarctica. would this be a good thing to mention on my college apps? how did you mention it on yours?

Do you really think you can use travelling to help you get accepted? This is a joke.

no - i didnt think you could. thats why i wanted to find out more.

but then im guessing, you cant?

BusinessFreak, how many "impressive" ECs do we need? I was under the impression having strong performance in one category w/ some background in other areas was what the goal is. I'm not saying my #1 category is strong, but what's your actual opinion? Are my ECs weak? And weak for what schools?

Thanks!

Sorry to hear that. I bet you'll get in at least one Ivy league school, because your credentials are impressive. Don't worry about it too much, you'll be competitive everywhere. I honestly couldn't guess why they rejected you, maybe the ED this year was just ultra competitive.

Stambiark, to be honest, the most impressive EC was the golf tournament,
followed by your bowl a thon fundraiser and luncheon fundraiser.

How could you even mention an EC where you made just $350 as a business? That makes you desperate and unaccomplished (which you are not of course).

You also need to show that you have leadership in ANYTHING you do, especially in the case of wharton.

All your ECs should sound impressive.

Seriously, if you have 3 ECs that are truly impressive, mention only those three. Its way better than including a list that seems useless (IMO)

Academically you are set for all your schools btw.

I didn't mention Travel as an E.C. or anything, it helps tie together perspective. I specifically know I want to work for an institution such as the IMF. Well why do I want to? Sure helping little kiddies is great. But I'm sure my persepctive had that much more of a meaningful, well-thought out, less ******** laden import, when I witnessed all of it first hand on my own, by myself, without any sort of help through a club. I would never put down "Extensive traveling!!!" lol.

"Do you really think you can use travelling to help you get accepted?"

travelling will help you get accepted. just depends on how you can portray your experiences through your essays

any other detailed responses? is my ED rejection a clear indicator that i am aiming too high?

When you have a 1600, you can't possibly aim too high. You could get into any school, but at that level, you hate to say it, but its some luck.
