Chances for a White/Male/Middle Class?

NYU/Tisch is my dream school of being able to attend, but I have a feeling will not be the school I go to due to my SATs being worse then I could have imagined.

Schools:
NYU
RIT
Northeastern
Loyola University Chicago
St. Johns

I plan on majoring in Photography & Business.
I know that these schools can be very hard to get into and very expensive but do I have any chance at all? Especially NYU?

White/Male/Middle Class
I will be paying for most, to all of my college.

Ready for my SATs............ 1530 ( (I have always been horrible with test taking and the SATS just sums that up.)

SAT: 1530 (All three sections)
GPA: Unweighted- 3.7
Weighted- 4.1
I go to a local college, Gannon University and will have done 15 credits all with either A's or B's
And plan on having a Strong Essay

ECA/Vollunteer/Work:

~Member of the National Honor Society

~3000 hours of Volunteer Hours

~Work a part time job

~Start up of photography business.

Thanks,
Scott

NYU will be very very hard with that SAT… the rest seem doable though. good luck!

Well, your SAT isn’t great, don’t get me wrong. But going to Tisch or any performing arts school will make that matter a lot less. I remember reading that CMU and NYU only take academics as 10% of the whole picture. The audition is the other 90%…So it’s nearly impossible to chance you without knowing your ability

Hope this helps(and if you want business, i think you mean NYU stern)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/741221-chance-will-chance-back-asap-2.html</a></p>

Thank you, and yes it will be hard but if making it “FIRST CHOICE”? will that help at all?

What is the Audition per say? Do I need to post my photography blog here?
My business is Scott Baker Photography & I’m a Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer.

Well I would like to double major, Photography and Business, so yes Tisch for photography and I would assume Stern for business.

Thanks again.
Scott

hey bud,
well, you definitely exceed in every category of admissions, except the SAT. I had a friend get into NYU Tisch with a 1800-1900 w/ photo experience via filming high school games for bball and football and another with 1700s. Anyhow, the entrepreneurship and volunteer hours immensely help, but with business and film being the strong points of NYU, I would say low yet possible. Focus on representing yourself well with exp. and talent- something that most high school kids don’t have during apps. St. Johns and Loyota should be in or close to; and northeastern isn’t bad either. If your SATs were 1800s or higher; it’d be a pretty solid chance of getting in for each college… anyway good luck; hope everything works out… and don’t give these too much thought, we’re all guessers on what adcoms think in the end =D

Thank you for the encouragement!
Lets say I get in, I am now EXTREMELY scared of the $57,000 a year price tag. Any thoughts there? Also what about RIT?

My friend is middle class, accepted into NYU Stern, only received 20k or so for this year; not so good when you figure 100k-120k debt so on tuition and board for next four years, so she chose BC instead. You’d figure that a Stern major should earn high marks at Wall Street with a good GPA, and pay off the loans… but it’ll be tough living in Manhattan for the duration with lots of debt/ low cash. RIT, just an engineering friend there, he got 1800-1900s I believe; not sure, it’s been awhile. I’m not really sure about RIT and its academics, sorry.

That is ok, thanks though for the help given, much appreciated.

Thanks but I already took them twice, and dont plan on it again. I absolutely HATE them. Thanks though.

Anyone else?

I would STRONGLY advise you to pursue the ACT before applying, other stats are pretty good

Why would you advise this?
I feel as though I would not do good due to my low scores on the SATs.

Anyone else?

Anyone…?

Northeastern will be a reach with that SAT.

Your SAT scores really kill you for NYU, but the rest of your stats seem solid. Have you considered looking at test optional schools?
RIT- match
Loyola- reach
Northeastern- match
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/745134-chances-southern-schools-lacs.html</a></p>

The reason to try the ACT is due to the fact that it is a different type of test - prepare well for it with the REAL ACT book, get the timing down, and you may surpass your SAT score. With that said, your SAT is fine for Northeastern, especially with 15 college credits of A and B - that is what they will consider, due to the fact that you have already achieved success in college level courses. Northeastern does look holistically at applications, and highly considers your interest level, and what you will bring to the community, coop experience, et.c

Here are some hard statistics off of Northeasterns website

25%/75%
GPA: 50% earned between 3.6-4.1
SAT: 50% scored between 1770-2030
ACT: 50% scored between 27-30

Northeastern does have a holistic approach but you are well below the bottom 25% for SATs. I would bump those up. You are within sight but not a match. Good luck!

I had a 1950 on the SAT but then I took the ACT and scored 32 both times which is around a 2160 or so and put me in the ranges of schools I was looking at. You should try it.
