chances for a yale grad

let's say someone has a 3.56 gpa from yale with a 169 on his LSATs, and his essays, recs and ecs are pretty good/standard. would this person have a shot at columbia, georgetown, virginia, penn, usc, hastings and other top schools?

(this person is not me, btw.)

Being from Yale probably gives a slight boost, but likely won’t be a difference maker for your friend. Unless the friend is a URM, then he is almost certainly out at Columbia, shaky at Penn and Virginia, maybe has a shot at Georgetown. Good chance at USC and Hastings.

Yale publishes its grids.

This should give the person involved a good idea. Focus on the matriculated, not the accepted, numbers.

wow, i would have thought that the average LSAT score of a yle grad would be higher than 165. Interesting…

An average undergrad LSAT score of 165 is quite high. Remember, this is a mean score. There are going to be many Yale students who take the LSAT who score well below a 165, just as there will be many who score well above a 165. But consider that the national average is 150. Also consider that an average score of 165 ranks Yale near the top when compared to other schools. Harvard (166), Stanford (164), and Princeton all have similar numbers, followed closely behind by the other Ivy’s and elite universities like Chicago (162) or MIT (163) and top liberal arts colleges like Williams (164), Amherst, Swarthmore, and Pomona (164).

Is there any way to get similar data for the GMAT?

Not to sound cheeky, but USC and Hastings are not “top schools” (some would say GULC isn’t going to be a top school in a couple years either har har har)…and these numbers are definitely good enough for them. (I feel like this is a flame question…)

GPA is a bit low. Yale will definitely be a boost, but I would say probably in at GULC (given Yale ugrad, despite low GPA), in at USC and Hastings, WL (leaning towards out) at Penn and Virginia, out at CLS.
