Chances for acceptance in MSU for fall 2011?

3.45 GPA. 21 on ACT. 24 math. 21 English. 21 Reading. 19 Science. 8 Writing.
Extracurriculars include marching/concert band 4 yrs. Cross country 1 yr. Track 3 yrs. National Honor Society next yr. Leadership program at school. My course load has some adv. classes. 2 AP classes next yr. AP Calculus and Biology. How likely am I to get into MSU?

Apply early. The odds are against you.

ok and thanks…i think? lol

Your GPA is in the 50th percentile, but I would try to raise it a bit 1st semester next year. Your ACT is a bit below average for MSU, but not the worst. I would definitely retake it though. Most people go up a couple points for each retake. I invested in some ACT book before my retake, and after less than an hour of reading, my score improved from a 26 to a 29. Apply early and have good essays! Good luck

Edit: I noticed your science is the worst score, I know this probably isn’t the place for this but I’ll give you some advice: Most people score bad on the science because they spend too much time reading those giant intro paragraphs to the experiments. Go right on to the questions and get the info you need from the charts and graphs.

Bc2015 thanks for the advice, it helps a lot. I def. plan to raise my gpa the first trimester of senior yr. But as far as ACT goes I’m done taking it! I’ve took it 3 times already but improved on each one. I also plan to apply as soon as the application is up. And thanks for the advice on the science section, it’s ok that you give your input but yeah I usually do read the questions first but I don’t know what happened. My score decreased from the last retake. but yeah I’m super nervous for appying because I don’t want to get denied I use to think I had a high chance until people started saying otherwise cause of my ACT score. I know people who got in with 18s-20s and gpas under 3.4

I think you’re fine. Your ACT is a little low but if you apply early you should be alright.

thanks,i defintly plan to.

I would definitely apply. You’re not a slam dunk but MSU is definitely within reach for you and I think you will get in. I would have a back up just in case.

thanks res ipsa, that means a lot. and yeah i have a back up :)

Apply early and try to raise your ACT score to increase your chances.

Though at my school I know of a few students who got accepted with a lower GPA and much lower ACT scores, one I can recall had a 15.

yeah i’m done taking the ACT’s. I took them 3 times already. Thanks anyway. And a 15??? Please tell me they had a 4.2 weighted gpa lol

Lol no it was like a 3.0 or lower. Good luck.

lol wow and thanks
