Hey! I’m working on my college apps and I wanted to know what my chances are in the following colleges:
Wellesley College
Trinity College
Smith College
Colgate University
Amherst College
Colby College
Wheaton College (MA)
UChicago
MIT
Brown
I’ve gotten a 1370 in my SAT, 710 in both Math L2 and Physics (Note that we haven’t covered half of the syllabus of both Math and Physics in school yet) and 107 in my TOEFL (MIT wanted that over the SAT; I asked admissions about it).
I’m studying at the most elite institution in my country on a scholarship, I’ve done quite a few national and regional competitions, am part of the school choir, vice president of two societies, treasurer of two societies, I’ve been doing volunteering for two years, been teaching street children at a public school for three years, I’m part of the student government and I work fifteen hours/week to help out. I will be applying for a lot of aid.
I’ve been following many admissions blogs and they’ve got me worried so I wanted to know if I have any chance of getting into a college in America.
Thanks!
You definitely have a chance.
Being an international student is even a hook for some universities. I’d suggest you research schools that have international initiatives going on right now.
However,
with your current test scores most of these schools are reaches or high matches. The SAT will improve the more times you take it. By my final SAT I had improved nearly 200 points.

@socksnthings As an intl applicant, I think you should focus on your ED2 school right now. Choose one wisely. I think most of these schools are reaches based on your SAT. But because most of them are liberal arts colleges, I would say that you should spend more time on polishing your PS as it really matters for those schools.
@pray4laif I’ve actually applied to MIT for EA and have been deferred by them so I’m not particularly keen about applying EA2. Another thing you should note as this I’m doing A levels so that kind of pushes up my GPA to a 4.8/5. Where do you think I should apply for ED2, Wellesley or Colby?
@socksnthings Wow, you must be very excellent to only get deferred by MIT. I think you should apply to Wellesley, that’s a really good women’s college. If I remember well, I think students in Wellesley can learn some courses in Harvard and MIT right? Apply there. The weather at Colby is colder, I think, and it is not near any big cities (3 hours from Boston I think). Haha, maybe I’m selfish: I’m applying to Colby, and I’m a male. Anyway, just choose the school you like better.
Thanks! I’ll think about it. I’ll end up applying to multiple places because I need lots of aid. Might end up going somewhere else altogether
