Chances for admission?

I'm a senior currently applying for Northwestern. My states are:

GPA: 3.98 unweighted (we don't get a weighted GPA, only a class rank)
Class Rank: 14 out of 270
AP/Honors: Freshman Honors English, Soph Honors English, Honors Chem, PreCalc, Spanish 4 Honors, AP Lit, AP Chem, AP U.S. History, AP Calc, AP Stats, AP Lang
SAT: 630 Math 670 CR 730 W (2030)
ACT: 33 Math 33 Reading 30 W 25 Science (Composite 30)
Extracurriculars/Work/Etc:
1. Plays and musicals at my school with leading roles
2. Voice lessons, 2nd runner up in District Solo and Ensemble Competition
3. Attended Regional Acting competition, qualified for State level, then qualified for National level
4. On the varsity Dance Team sophomore year (earned letter)
5. Member of Spanish National Honor's Society
6. Member of BOAL political activist theater group summer before senior year
7. Holiday Magic Breakfast theater grades 9 and 10 (paid work experience, served breakfast and performed a revue for children during the holidays)
8. Participated in my school's choir program all 4 years, member of elite audition showchoir grades 11 and 12
9. Scholar's Alliance learning seminar (metacognition, Art of War, etc) grades 10, 11, 12
10. Piano Lessons grades 10 and 11
11. Young Life bible study all four years

IN the summers:
I've done a 6 week program literally every summer since I was 13
6 weeks at Interlochen Arts Camp for Musical Theater summers before 9, 10, 11 (competitive audition program)
6 weeks at Carnegie Mellon Pre-College summer before 12

My test scores are definitely on the low end :/ and my stupid science on the ACT brought my composite down considerably! But hopefully the extracurriculars help. In any case, what are my chances?

Are you applying for Theatre in the Communications School? I have heard that is more competitive than the already VERY competitive NU admission.

Yes, but I believe there used to be an audition for admission into the theater program (that might be wrong) but I know that there isn’t one currently. Maybe that’s what that’s all about, because I think that generally the stats for people applying as theater majors are a little lower than those applying strictly academically

There is a conversation on the Theatre & Drama Majors forum about admission to the NU Theatre program. You might try posting your question over there. There are some current students and parents that post there.

I think the competitiveness may come from the fact that they accept a very small number into the program each year from all of the students who apply. Good luck :)!

MWelsh,
NU doesn’t look at the writing score. Your SAT scores are on the low side, but not totally out of the ballpark. If you are applying for the theatre major in the School of Communication, there is NO audition in to the major, but they take no more than 100 students yearly. Your extensive theatre resume may help to overcome your test scores, but it isn’t a sure shot. Once you are enrolled in the theatre major in the SoC, there is an audition at the end of your freshman year to be admitted to the Musical Theatre certificate program. That audition is extremely competitive.

Yeah, I know about the whole nonaudition for admission as a freshman/ end of year audition for MT (something I’d be interested in for sure). Thanks for the info  Do you think, since they don’t look at the writing score, that I should just submit my ACT instead? Only concern with ACT is that I know schools mostly look at composite for ACT, and mine is still on the low side due to the science section. If they, however, are looking at Math and Verbal, my individual ACT scores are better than my individual SAT scores.

Your act is better
