Chances for Admission

I would very much appreciate it if someone were to chance me, please.

GPA: 3.1 unweighted (but with huge upward trend)
SAT: 2250 (CR: 720 W:770 M:760) (probably going to bring up Math and Critical Reading)
AP Scores: AP Biology (4), AP Chemistry (4), AP US History (5), AP World History (5), AP Language and Comp (5), AP Spanish (4)
Classes Taken: Around 10 AP Classes once I finished. (It should be noted that I transferred sophomore year from a school that offered almost no AP classes, so those were all junior and senior year)
EC:
Internship at NASA
Internship at Cal Tech
Science Quiz Bowl Team
Published a scientific paper
President of the Sports Medicine club
Founded Model UN
~80 hours of volunteer work with a hospital
~40 hours of volunteer work at a homeless shelter

Recommendations: Stellar
Other: Not sure where to put this but the reason for my low GPA is because I have spent around 26 hours a week every week since sophomore year taking care of my grandmother who had a stroke. This has severely impacted my grades.

Anyway, thank you so much for bearing with me for this and possibly responding. I'm very worried about my GPA, which is mostly due to the above reasons. Once again, thanks so much for your time!

Hi Paideia,

I am not very good at assessing someone’s chances for getting into CMC. Obviously, your GPA is low, but it sounds like you have a plausible reason for the low grades. I think if you could have your guidance counselor say something about this in your application, it would be helpful. Also, the huge upward trend should mitigate to some degree the negative perception of underperforming in high school.

If you can make a good case why you would be a good fit for CMC in your application, I think your chances would improve immeasurably. Do you have a specific area you would like to study? The more specific you can be about what it is you want to get out of your college experience, the greater your chances of gaining admission to CMC.

BTW, welcome to CC.

Thank you for helping! Just one more thing, though. Should I include the thing with my grandmother on my extracurriculars, or should I just use it for the “circumstances” portion of the application?

The latter
