Chances for Admission?

I'm a male high school sophomore and am wondering what my chances are for getting into a good Premed program, pretty much anywhere in the country. Here are my stats:

Background: Male, Indian, Sophomore attending a public high school in Michigan

Colleges: Anywhere with a good premed program (ex Wayne State MedStart, Univ. of Detroit Mercy etc...)

GPA: 4.000
Class Size: ~500

Courses taken:

Freshman Year:
English 9: A-/A-
Honors Algebra II: A/A
French II: A+/A
Chemistry: A/A
PE/Health: A/A
US History: A/A

Summer School: Biology: A/A

Sophomore Year:
Honors Pre-Calculus: A/--
AP Biology: A/--
English 10: A/--
AP Chemistry: A+/--
Civics and Economics: A/--
French III: A/--

SAT I: Not taken yet.
SAT II: Not taken yet, but planning to take Chemistry, Biology and Math (at least)
ACT: I took a practice one legitimately and got a 31. I took the Feb. ACT a week or two ago, and am still expecting my results. I'm anticipating around a 31 (30-32). I AM planning to take it again, hopefully attaining at least a 34. Will update this thread and scores arrive.

ECs:
-SADD, Math, Science, French, Interact, Science Olympiad Team
-Employed for like 2 months at a local Kumon freshman year.
-Currently volunteering at local a Senior Home and a Local Hospital

there isn’t that much to go on since you’re only a sophomore but your grades are really good! i also think you will get your ACT to be good too(:

the main thing is ECs & leadership. stick with the science olympiad team & try to really excel in it. also SADD probably has some volunteering opportunities that you can get involved with on a national level. what im saying is basically you also need some solid ECs to get into a top notch school.

also what you do in the summers will be very important. try to secure a research internship maybe for next summer?

another thing, im indian & it actually goes against you to want to be pre-med as an indian. show some diversity maybe…for me it was being in 2 varsity sports & focusing on journalism though i ultimately want to be pre-med.

You really need to read the threads on best colleges for med school. I don’t think anyone will say x college has the best pre-med program. Some might say x has a great pre-med program but I haven’t seen anyone try to rank them.

Also, you can do pre-med anywhere. If you start reading the different threads you’ll see that most people recommend that you go to the undergraduate school where you can get the best grades at the cheapest price and save your money for med school.

UPDATE: I GOT A 32 ON MY ACT (AS A SOPHOMORE)

polo, thanks so much! over the summer, ive really been busy with school soccer (a sport that not a lot of indians play, so im pretty happy about that) and with summer school courses, too. i know that im taking the ACT again FOR SURE. I want at least a 34, aiming for a 35/36 on a good day. I did good on english and math sections: 35 each, but my reading and science slacked (29 and 30 respectively) and I got an 8 on the essay (meh). hopefully i can improve the last 2 sections for next time.

sadilly, thanks! i just kinda wanna know what good premed programs i can qualify for. i doubt i have a chance for premed at the ivies (pessimistic, i know), so i want to know what other good programs i have a decent chance of getting into. Again, thanks so much for responding both of you!

Premed is not a major. You can major in anything and fulfill your premed requirements. The primary way of evaluating med school applicants is the MCAT and your grades. Go to a school where you will enjoy your experience and do well. It should also be AFFORDABLE so you can absorb the costs of med school.

@Erin’s Dad, thanks, but I just want to know if I’m “good enough” to get admitted into these programs, and specifically, which ones (that you know). I want to enter one of these programs straight after high school
