chances for admission

4.12 non weighted GPA
24 ACT
no advanced or honors classes
over 500 hours in community service
local leader fellowship of christian athletes
varsity golfer with 2 letters (not recruited for golf)
several recommendations from community leaders

is this school out of my reach? or can I get in with good letters of recommendation and essay?

From admissions page:
Freshman Class (as of Fall 2014)*
•Applied: 23,346
•Enrolled: 4,970
•GPA (high school average): 4.00
•SAT range: 1130-1280
•ACT range: 25-29

Are you instate? Did you have option to take honors or AP and didn’t? Usually GPA over 4.0 is weighted GPA so that’s a little confusing.

Out of state. Not weighted I presume since my state does not use a 5.0 GPA scale like SC and I had to convert. Accelerated Classes in Math. College prep classes in all other subjects. Honor roll in every marking period but did not take honors courses. My HS does not rank students but I would be in top 25% if they did. ACT range I understand to be an average which means some can be below. Just looking to see if any one else near my statistics was able to get in.

Thanks for your reply

If you are out of state then please call and talk to admissions counselor about how your GPA is converted. It may help with your profile. Some others on this forum are OOS and are more familiar with how they convert than I am as an in-state person. ACT is on lower end of interquartile so I would definitely try to take again in fall to up your chances. Good luck.

When you apply the form will ask you how your school assigns grades (for example, mine was a 91+ for an A, etc).

The USC scale starts off like:

A: 4.0
B: 3.0
C: 2.0

Then for each honors and/or AP class, you add 1 point.
An A in an AP or honors class would be a 5.0.
A B in an AP or honors class would be a 4.0.
An A in a standard class would be a 4.0.

If this isn’t clear or you need help calculating your grade, shoot me a private message and I’ll see if I can help.

Good luck!
