I haven't sent in my app yet, hoping its not too late. Thanx in advance for any responses.

looks grim to me...because of the fact that UF receives enough URM applicants that they won't significantly weigh your ethnicity I think...
However it always helps being black I think.
go for it! you are above the average (in-state at least) i think.
I am going to apply to that school too and I have very similar stats with you. btw i am korean american

it doesnt really matter how many urm apps they receive if their stats aren't good. and based on percentages, at least for test scores, my numbers are far far above average for african americans. Dont understand what makes it grim................................

I think everyone who is applying to UF or any other top 60 or so National Colleges are above the average regardless of your race; moreover your stats are, and I must admit, above the average. However, I do not know how much the University weighs applicants' ethnicities.

I will re-phrase my previous reply. You have good chances of being offered an admission to the University.

I always thought that public schools do not really look at specifics of an applicant such as your ECs and ethnicity. Maybe I am wrong, but if my little theory is correct, you better not push with your ethnicity.

Nonetheless, your stats are above both the University and the national average as well as the average African-American.

I would say you have about 75% of getting in.
If you have not applied to the University yet, I highly recommend you to do so for the well known public schools such as the University of Florida tend to fill quicker than the lesser known ones do.

well a 75% chance and a grim outlook in my opinion are two veeeeeery different things. lol. i appreciate ur reply. anyone else with an opinion????????????plz

jarell, i just checked on the ufl website, and they have extended rd II until Febraury. if you dont believe me, check it yourself, i gaurentte. and for your stats, they look fine. i am applying to.

I'd say your chances are fair. Your SAT is average. But your GPA, weighted and unweighted, is low...and grades are most important factor for UF admissions. Also, your EC's look a little weak. I'd say if you've taken 5 or more APs, then your chances are a little better than fair. If your class rank is in the top 10%, and you have 5 APs, then I'd say you are looking good.

i hope you know rogracer that the university weighs the g.p.a. thats why there averages are like 3.7 to 4.3. check the website if you dont believe me.

Yes, I know...the middle 50% is 3.8 to 4.3 weighted (academic classes only). Jarell says his weighted GPA is 3.6, so it below this range. Also, his unweighted GPA of 3.2 is low compared to the students I know attending. That is why I think it will come down to his APs and class rank.

I'm from FL, so I don't know how they look at out-of-state applicants. I would think that they would want the diversity of students from outside of FL, and I wouldn't imagine they get a lot of applications from Kansas. As others have said, UF is by no means lacking in the diversity category, but your scores are probably well above the average for African American applicants. Your GPA is rather low, and your SATs are in the average range for UF. You're going to need them to be impressed with your recommendation (you should send one if you think it will be positive) and essays since the rest of your application isn't spectacular. Also, are you the first in your family to attend/graduate from college? If so, that will help. Work hard on the essays, get an awesome rec, and make sure to play to your strenghts when you complete your app. It is difficult for me to evaluate your chances because of your out-of-state status. If admissions are more difficult for out-of-state students, then I think your chances are about 40%, if it is easier (or they want kids from Kansas), then I'd say 65%. Good luck!

My parents did not attend college, and my brother has only taken community college classes. My grandparents on one side of the family both got degrees. I think I will have pretty good recs, and my essays in my opinion are fairly strong. UFl sent me a packet last spring that said they would like to invite me to enroll in the class of 09. I like the weather, the athletic atmosphere, and all of the different programs available.

I believe they just ask for your parents' background, so the fact that they did not graduate from college will help you a lot. If they sent you a packet, then they must be looking for out-of-staters, so I'd say 70% chance (but I'm not admissions officer...)
