For UMCP your SAT should be at least in the 1200 range. You're out of state so 1250 and up is your best bet. I don't know ACT and SAT equivilancies but if you get a decent SAT score I'd say you have a good shot!

Yeah, your ACT score is pretty good I believe... a 31 is around a 1360-1400 according to most tables I've seen, which is a good score for UMD. The fact that you're from Alabama also helps :) If you retake the ACT and get higher, I'd say you're golden. Just be sure not to slack off in other areas of your app (keep the GPA up...I'm assuming the 3.43 is unweighted?)

Also, I don't think that Maryland has a binding early decision program (at least not that I'm aware of). Applying early action (by Dec 1) gets you a decision by February but I think that's it. [I'd check on this for you but umd is having a system outage for maintenance until tomorrow afternoon.]

Your in as long as UMD doesn't put less weight on ACTs. I mean a 31 is about a 1380, which I got, and I got a 3.46UW GPA. Like Lindz said there is no ED but there is priority and you have to apply for that or you will NOT get in. UMD takes about 90% of its acceptances from those that apply before DEC 1st(this year). You have to apply before that, no choice.

Totally agree. DO priority. Get good recs. Write a good essay (get it revised by your english teacher). With that, you'll be in. Don't expect a good schollie, but you'll be in. I say this because I got a 1410, 3.60 unweighted, and all I got was $1500 one time. I didn't have the best EC's, but I thought I would atleast get a little more. Oh well.

There's definitely no ED program at UMCP - or I would have done it - best you can do is priority - and from what I was told, they fill the great majority of the class from priority - so if you're serious - get to work on the essays and be there when the class of 2007 applications "door" opens in August!

So the scholarships at UMCP arent attainable?

Oh they are. Atleast 4 people from my school got the Banneker-Key full-ride. Grrr.

the banneker-key scholarships are VERY hard to attain, especially if you're not a minority. but besides that, financial aid sucks. most scholarships are only for a year or two, and don't really go past $5000 merit-based except for a few people.

banneker key is for UMD to attract ivy-caliber students. 200 people are offered BK every year (out of 20,000+ applicants) so its a VERY competitive scholarship. usually students have in at least the 3.9's and equivalent to a 1500+ on the SAT along with exceptional EC's and leadership.
