Essays are descent.

“essays are descent”

not good enough, they must be exceptional! as must be your letters of recommendation, make sure your teachers have enough information to write personal and informed letters

Cornell (mid-high reach), UCLA (low to high reach), Carnegie Mellon University (mid reach), Upenn (mid-high reach), Dartmouth College (mid-high reach), Boston University (mid-high match), NYU (high match to low reach)

international applicants have it harder

you should get into at least one or two of your reaches assuming your essays and LORs are spectacular, as I’m sure they have the potential to be!

best of luck!

DE trips don’t count for jack and your ec’s are terrible (too few sorry). Your grades and pursue of the Ib diploma on the other hand is amazing. Build up your ec’s now since all these big name unis dig balance and not only grades. Right now BU is a match but trust me it’s a **** school for a guy with your grades. Nyu is going to be hard since they love ec’s almost more than grades and you can thus assume what my answer for the rest of the schools is… Sorry for the cold hard truth mate I had to face it too. All you have right now is grades(how so ever amazig) but that’s not all unis want at all. Btw where the ff are your sports besides swimming!? Do something spectacular this last yea of high school and you’ll be fine :). Shine out!!

^that was friendly…

Thanks for the the chance !

I’ve always thought international students would have some form of advantage since the educational systems they come from (those who do not attend American schools), do not necessarily focus on requirements for American Universities like the SATs. A few friends of mine in Malaysia got sub-par SAT scores by CC standards (around the 1900s) and got into places like Stanford and MIT.

As for my recommendations the one from my economics teacher will most likely be really good since he loves me.

Other one will be from my Maths teacher and it will be generic.

My final rec will be from my MUN teacher or swimming coach both should be great.

I say should and most likely because my school doesn’t allow us to read teacher recommendation letters…

Also I should add that my intended major is economics to make chancing me easier.

i guess it depends where you’re from/how you look at it

in some ways it’s an advantage, a sort of “hook”

on the other hand, US schools tend to admit more american kids

that’s been my impression, can anyone verify?

You do deff have an advantage as an international applicant and especially Ib diploma student.

Reason being the rigor of the Ib diploma is as if the student were taking 7 ap classes along with 150 hours of mandatory ec’s ( CAS ) and two extra madatory courses ( Tok and ee).

Should also add I cofounded the MUN at my school

CAS is a great help. I wouldn’t have a lot of the EC’s I have now without it ^^
