Chances for American and George Washington

I was wondering if anyone could tell me my chances for George Washington University and American University. Also, I would appreciate a rating for my chances at their honors programs and scholarships. I am currently a junior

SAT: 2400 scale - 2030 ,1600 scale - 1330
SAT Subject test: World History - 640 ,U.S. History - TBA
AP's: World History - 5, U.S. History - TBA
I will also be taking AP U.S. Politics and an AP language course next year (I am a non - native by the way)
GPA: Weighted - 4.02
All of my classes are honors classes. Even though individual class grades are not weighted, my school only offers weighted GPA's.

By the end of senior year, I will have taken four years of English, four years of Math, four years of History, four years of Foreign Language, three years of Science, and three years of Engineering.

Extra Circulars: I have been in about five or six clubs for different amounts of time in my school. I have held an extended leadership position in one club. During last summer, I interned for an elected official. I will be returning this year and working on his campaign.

American University and GW are my top choices, and I have visited both schools.

You’re a match for American. I don’t know how much weight GWU puts on ECs because that seems to be your weakest point, but I bet you’ll get in at both.

I am also a member of the National Honor Society. Also, my school does not rank.

You definitely have a chance for AU, GWU you probably will get into also (these are the schools I’m applying to). I honestly think your weakness is your AP courses. It seems as if you have only completed 2 AP classes? Colleges (especially GWU) like to see how many AP courses your school offers and then see how much you tried to challange yourself.

Maybe his school doesn’t offer many.

My school does offer a few, but I have taken the only AP’s my school offers in history (I will be majoring in political science)

In all honesty, GW and American are not very difficult schools to get into. You’ll be fine.

I COMPLETELY DISAGREE! I have not checked stats on American, but GW is VERY DIFFICULT to get into. For the class of 2014, there were well over 21,000 applicants and only 31.5% were accepted (you can readily confirm this via web search), so don’t let anyone get your guard down.

Also, check this year’s GW thread on admissions/rejections/waitlists for sample stats. You will see a number of disgruntled posts, but the bottom line is you want to be accepted. You don’t even want to be waitlisted because the yield for GW (i.e., a student’s acceptance of GW’s offer of acceptance) has gone up significantly!

Your gpa and SAT scores seem to be ok. I agree with rokAng3l that the number of AP courses appear to be on the low side. On the other hand, you will want to maintain above a 4.0 in the hope of avoiding any unpleasant surprises at the end. You will have to think about this one.

GOOD LUCK! I hope you get in.
