Chances for an american at oxford to read history

SAT1 cr750 m710 w770 = 2230
SAT2 USH-800 lit-690
AP's USH-5 Eng lang-5 Eng lit-5

next year I will take Euro History AP, World History AP, US Gov and Pol AP, and Psychology AP

Is there a shot to get into oxford for history? As a subject it has one of the higher acceptance rates (31)

does the lit 690 automatically disqualify me?

Thanks

The lit score isn't terrible, but you could also just take another subject test if you have time before applying if you think you could get a better score. The ad coms should only see the two highest.

Sorry, I don't know about Oxford admissions, good luck!

Good question, to provide a personal anecdote, my cousin was accepted at Oxford and LSE (London School of Economics) as a history major (from the U.S) last year. His SAT scores were roughly as high as yours, and he even received a 660 on his Physics SAT 2. Don't fret over a 690, just be sure to send in your application well before the deadline, they tend to be more lenient if you do. Furthermore, don't hesitate simply because you're an American - this often works to your advantage when applying to a school in the UK.

If you are applying for history they will ignore scores in unrelated subjects. You will ahve to take a history apptitude test (HAT) in addition.

I think attending a US high school is a bit of a disadvantage as in the UK they are considered too easy. Most US applicants have already completed a year of a US college.

Are you applying for Fall 2009 or Fall 2010? As AP scores are one of the three main criteria for Oxford admissions, getting 5s on the Euro and World exams by the time you apply would help you significantly. If you do well on both your HAT and you nail your interview (a very difficult task), they will probably overlook your lack of AP. But even if you're applying for Fall 2010, having a bunch of 5s on APs will still mean you have to nail your interview.
