Chances for an Asian female?

What are my chances at George Washington if my GPA and class rank are on the lower end, but my SAT scores and ECs are really good?

Korean female, very competitive public MA hs

GPA~3.8 UW, not sure of weighted
Class rank~ 50/390
Course load: most challenging available
AP: Bio, US, Eng Language, Calc, Psych, Econ, Eng Lit, Latin Lit
SAT: 690 math 710 verbal as sophomore, I took the Nov 6 SAT so waiting for scores, hopefully 1500+

EC: VERY heavy focus on debate, which is my absolute love and passion, plus I have a record that'll be very unique and impressive-- there's A LOT under this category
A lot of politics, like DNC volunteer, volunteer for Kerry campaign, Dean campaign, US House and State senate campaigns, State senate intern, hopefully DC page
Asian Culture Club, president
Amnesty International, president
Viola, districts and soloist and allstate whatnot
Young Democrats, school branch and state branch
I help autistic kids learn Korean on occasional Saturdays
The Other Side (satire magazine) Editor in Chief
English language editor, New England Korean Journal

NHS, National Latin Honor Society, National Forensics League, National Merit Semifinalist at least I think, National Latin Exam gold and silver medals

Also, any suggestions?

Please, I'd really appreciate any help!

im thinking that you will be alright

Yes, you have a strong shot. I would say 50% chance.

My Nov SAT was 640 math/790 verbal... I'm excited about the verbal score but the math was a bit of a downer. Do you think I could qualify for merit aid?

You should be fine for admission and a good candidate for merit aid. 1350 and above is considered for honors, so I would expect it helps if you are above that.

Thanks so much! I love George Washington, and especially their debate team. I really want to apply ED, but I'm not sure if I can get enough aid, and my parents can't exactly handle financing two college and law school educations at the same time.

You may want to consider not applying ED, because of your concern over the financial package. Your stats and EC's are all good. You may consider applying RD, but having some correspondence with them to stand out for your strong interest level. Visit, e-mail the debate team people, etc. If you communicate your interest, they'll get the picture I think. You sound like the perfect GW student. And GW, despite its high price tag, is VERY generous with both need and merit aid. We didn't even apply for need-based aid and my son was offered a 50% merit scholarship, so the cost ended up being less than $25,000, tuition & room/board. (P.S. - my son absolutely loves it, no reservations.)
