My ECs are Okay, but SAT I is not good. Where do you think I can apply to? Thanks a lot

Hi I'm happy to help you out ... but can you chance me as well? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/538677-please-chance-me-i-d-really-really-appreciate.html

Your grades are fine, but I can't see if you challenged yourself in high school -- did you take APs, IBs, or did you follow the British-patterned education (GCSEs/A-Levels)??? Your SATs are also decent. However, you should try and bump it up by 50 points or so. Your SAT IIs and awards are impressive. To be honored at a national level is a difficult feat to accomplish, and your research activity complements your honors and awards pretty well. However, you should try to post your ECs so that we can get a better picture of you.

Overall, you're a solid candidate, but your SAT will definitely work against you at some of the Ivies. If you can't retake the SAT, make sure that you do well on your essays. I will note that since you're an international student, colleges may forgive you for getting a 650 on CR and WR.

As a side note, you should also take the TOEFL, because you are an international.

Chances:
-HYSP: Far reach
-Other Ivies: Reach but far reach if you don't have APs
-Top 20 Schools: Slight reach
-Berkeley/UMich: Match (I think ... if you get your SATs up)
-Top 25-50 schools: Match

I do take A-levels subjects including math, physics, chemistry and economics, which are demanding loads comparable to AP subjects. But the results will only come out in March next year. Do I really need to take TOEFL? I have been studying in an English environment for four years and my counselor told me no need to do so.
