Chances for an australian/american

<p>I’m an Australian dual American. Born and educated in Australia with an American mother (have made yearly visits to the US every summer) attend a private school outside Sydney and would be grateful to be chanced.</p>

<p>SAT Math 600 CR 760 W 760 total 1360/2120
Sat II Math 630 Eng Lit 770 Physics 640</p>

<p>I want to pursue a career as a writer/journalist</p>

<p>IB Diploma course Predicted score 40 </p>

<p>ECs include lots of charity work, flute for 8 years, school orchestra 7 years (my school is K - 12) held 1st flute chair years 11 and 12; small piece published in No. 1 Teen Mag in Australia (equivalent to Seventeen); co-capt. Debate team, Yearbook (Australia doesn’t have the number of clubs/activities that you find in US schools); Prefect</p>

<p>Worked for the past 5 years at my Mom’s homewares shop in our local mall.</p>

<p>Have won many school and regional awards including winning our school’s academic scholarship (two are given to cover tuition for Years 11 and 12)</p>

I don't know how much you have hung around the Barnard forum, but in case you don't already know, I am just a mom of a Barnard junior, so I am not in any way qualified to truly assess your "chances". Of course, short of an admissions officer's input, nobody here is really qualified!</p>

<p>That being said, I should think your chances are good. Barnard is a virtual haven for strong writers and you do show a passion for your music by your consistent involvement there. Also, I glanced at your other posts and see you were deferred by Yale, so that is also an indicator that your standing is a pretty strong one. </p>

<p>Of course, admission to Barnard is quite competitive and I do hope you have some "safeties" in your basket of applications, as should everyone who applies.</p>
