Chances for an average student

I plan to apply (and hopefully get in) to Stern ED. I plan to major Finance and/or Int'l business.

GPA: 3.6 cumulative
SAT I: ~2200 (640ish CR, 760ish W, 800 M) stupid CR :(
SATII: Bio E 630, USH and French should be high 700's, Math II low to mid 700's I hope
AP: USH should be 5, French should be 3-4, next year Econ, Calc AB, English, and Euro
Courseload: 5 honors so far, 2 AP's and 4 more AP's next year
EC's: Nothing that impressive. I'm applying for internships relating to finance.
Recommendations: Will be glowing
Essay: If I do get an internship over the summer, I'll write about it, and my plans to pursue business. If not, it'll be great anyways.

Do I even have a chance?

dont apply to stern. apply to cas. you wont get in for stern. your gpa and sat arent high enough

Let me guess: I'm BELOW average?!?!?!?!

do you think a 2200 is below average, if not, you are stupid

they dont count writing

the 800 in math is a major boost for stern though....and if you apply early its another major boost. if you land a finance related internship it will help you out too..im not sure what a 3.6 is equivalent to but id say if you have about at least a 93 uw and above a 1350 (m+v) with good recs/essay/ec you are a strong early decision candidate.

you still ahve awhile to bring up your gpa..unless you're just guessing that it will be a 3.6 by the time you apply

try to get it up to at least 3.7 and then if you apply early I think you will have a very good chance

Here's the thing: I could either apply ED with a 3.63 or I could wait and apply RD with a 3.68. Which is the better option?

If I apply ED, I get that boost for applying ED. But my GPA won't be as high. If I apply RD, I don't get that ED boost, but my GPA will be higher.

If I was marginal (as in not a definite reject OR definite admit) in their eyes, would they flat-out reject me or defer their decision?

They don't defer. And if it's your clear-cut number one choice you should consider early decision. The GPA improvement is good but minimal.

Oh well, in that case, I guess I'll just apply ED, since it IS my absolute first choice, and I'll be more than happy to go there if they accept me, at any cost whatever (well b/c my parents are paying for it, so they'll deal with the financial aspect of it.)

My fall term senior year ends around november 20th. If I FedEx the final transcript with the senior year fall grades on it (it'll be available first week of december at the earliest), would they receive it early enough to have it factor into their admission decision?

i agree that you should apply ED
and they won't count your senior year grades

if you apply early they dont look at senior year grades..

bump ((;0))
