Chances for an in-state, non-top 10% student?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if I had any chance of getting into UT without being in the top 10% of my school.

I'm a junior from a fairly competitive Texas school (it was on the Newsweek list); one would need about a 97 average to get in the top 10%.

Do I have better chance because I want to go into Liberal Arts, instead of a more competitive unit like Business?

SAT:
750 V/610 M/660 W
(1360/1600) or (2020/2400)

Unweighted GPA: 3.61
Weighted GPA: 3.69

AP Tests:
US History- 5
European History- 5

Extracurriculars (not many!):
Model U.N. (10-12) and will be an officer next year
Orchestra (9-10)
Young Republicans (11-12) and will be an officer next year
Also served as a page at a State Senatorial District convention
Got 2nd place at "Academic Worldquest" competition
(I'll improve this section next year)

Thanks!

There's really no way to know - most of the class next year will be top 10% students, more than this year most likely.

Apply to whatever school within UT you want tho - if you aren't accepted they will consider you for liberal arts anyways.

I believe you have a shot. If you can raise your SAT score a bit more, I do not think you will have a problem (In my opinion >2100). However, try your best to be in the top 10%. That is the easiest way to get into UT.

You really should start looking at other options, or think through what you'll do if they offer you CAP at UTSA, UTA or UTEP. With over 70% of admissions to UT going to the top 10%, students - even with excellent scores like yours, and better - are being squeezed out.

Get your application into UT early! The earlier the better.

In my opinion, you would be admitted since you're applying to Liberal Arts and SAT scores and AP test results are good.
