You can compare where you stand with your GPA/Test scores.

1820 and 27 aren’t good enough for MIT. Those need to be at least 2200 or 32/33 (you only have to submit one of them - the SAT or ACT).

According to MIT’s acceptance website, you have about a 1% chance of getting in. Good luck

You can’t get in. I’d say less than 0.5% chance,

Damn, outlooker, would you cool your jets please? Does it make you feel good to tell other people that they absolutely, no-chance, when-Florida-freezes-over WILL NOT get into schools? How do you know – got a crystal ball you want to share with the rest of us?

Chances 100% accurate, guaranteed, by the International Fellow-HS-Student Chancing Model ™.

But its mentioned on MIT’s website that international students have two options- either take sat or take TOEFL along with subject tests http://mitadmissions.org/apply/international/intltests

The TOEFL (we do not accept IELTS) as well as two SAT Subject Tests: one in math (level 1 or 2) and one in science (physics, chemistry, or biology e/m). This option is especially recommended for students who do not speak English at home or in school, or who have been speaking English for fewer than five years.

I think you can get in!!! You took math level 2 and SAT on chem and physics

Zero wit that SAT/ACT score.

I would rather use TOEFL score. However, please note that scores are not everything, particularly in schools like MIT.

I’ll be honest with you.

You do not stand a chance unless you have an international olympiad medal or something else. I too am applying this year (from India) and I have friends who have done way better stuff on top of excellent SAT scores. I do know that MIT admissions are very tough.

I’m not telling you not to apply, but it would be better if you could start looking at schools more suited for your profile.

All the best.

mumbai98 I have gold medal on International English Olympiad held by british council and in top 1% of world population in macmillan examination held by UNSW. Also state topper in National Cyber Olympiad and IMO. what is your profile?

@bodangles I was just being honest. This student has practically no chance of getting into MIT.
@jainhul98 look at schools like Texas A&M, USC, and maybe UMich. These are good schools for engineering/STEM and you could make it in.

@outlooker My point is that you have no idea. You’re not an adviser or admissions counselor. You’re a high school student yourself. Stop acting like what you’re saying is the end-all-be-all. That’s not honesty; it’s hubris.

@bodangles I understand that. The whole purpose of chance threads is for posters to get candid opinions on their chances of getting accepted. I was simply stating my opinion as the poster is asking.

@outlooker Except your MO is to state it not as opinion, but as fact. I was sorely tempted to copy and paste your latest rudeness – “If you have to ask, you won’t get in” – over to your chance thread and just leave it there for ironic effect.

An opinion is: I don’t think you’ll get in. Or: Your chances are probably pretty low.

A fact is: Your SAT score is below the 25th percentile at that school.

An opinion is not: You will not get in.

That’s some pretty impressive future-predicting crap, so if you do indeed have the qualifications to make such a flat, certain, rude statement, it’d be nice if you shared that psychic power with the rest of us. Might be useful.

@bodangles I agree with everything you said. I know I shouldn’t present opinions as a fact, but in this case his chance of getting into MIT is so incredibly low that’s it’s pretty much a fact that he won’t get in. Over 500 applicants apply from India and usually less than 6 are accepted. Those who do are absolutely extraordinary with mind blowing accomplishments.

Although I disagree with outlooker’s tone and style, I am inclined to agree with his overall prognosis. There are simply too many highly-qualified Indian applicants seeking spots in American STEM programs. You are in one of the most brutal demographic sectors when it comes to admissions here. Will you need financial aid of any kind? It will limit your options if you do. If not, we can recommend many good Engineering/Tech colleges where your odds are better than they will be at MIT, but they might not have the name prestige overseas.
