I got an recommendation letter from a Dartmouth student. Is it really helpful?
Please chance me.
Thanks in advance.

It seems clear that your high school would know how you compare to their other students who are at Dartmouth. I can’t see how anyone here could give you better information. You certainly seem like a good candidate to me, for what it’s worth.

BTW, have you taken TOEFL? (Do you need to?)

Thanks Consolation for your reply.
I took TOEFL last year but the result was not really good to me. I will take it again in Jan, 2009. But I don’t know whether Dartmouth could accept it or not.

According to the Dartmouth website, most of the students accepted score 250 or above on the computer-based TOEFL or 600 or above on the paper-based test. It sounds as if you need to take it.

TOEFL is not a requirement though acc. to the website.

From the FAQ:

<<am i=“” required=“” to=“” take=“” the=“” toefl=“” (test=“” of=“” english=“” as=“” a=“” foreign=“” language)=“” if=“” my=“” first=“” language=“” is=“” one=“” other=“” than=“” english?=“” there=“” cut-off=“” score?=“” your=“” you=“” are=“” not=“” toefl.=“” however,=“” fluent=“” in=“” several=“” languages,=“” will=“” be=“” penalized=“” for=“” taking=“” exam=“” which=“” may=“” prove=“” an=“” additional=“” indicator=“” strengths=“” and=“” ability=“” use=“” english.=“” vast=“” majority=“” students=“” accepted=“” score=“” better=“” 600=“” on=“” paper-based=“” test=“” or=“” 250=“” computer-based=“” test.=“”>></am>

If your first language is English you aren’t required to take it. By extension, if your first language is NOT English, you have to take it. I would say that they are somewhat fuzzy on the subject, although there is a clear implication that they want you to take it and they expect a high score.
