international applicants always get the short end of the stick. my friend last year was considered international even though she was a permenant resident. she had straight As since the 7th grade and perfect SAT scores. she was the president of a lot of clubs and had a shelfful of awards. she got flat out rejected by stanford.

i'm not telling you this to get you down. by applying you have a chance, and you seem to have solid ECs.

I am an international applicant, too. I applied ED because I thought I have better chances than RD...Doesn't Dartmouth have a more open admission policy for internationals than Stanford does?

The big question is will you need aid as Dartmouth is not need blind to international students so part of the admissions decision will be based on your ability to pay.
The flag you raise is your work experience where you state

civil service (helping people with special needs 40 hours per week for nine months)

this is the equivalent of a full time job, so if you are doing this where do you find the time for school and all of the other stuff on your application?

@ sybbie: as a German male citizen you are required to do a military service for nine months. you have to do it! another option is you decide to take out an alternative service (civil service) and help people with special needs.

but the other side of the coin is that there are many international students all trying to be admitted into a hand full of spots at each school for the class of 2008, there were only 2 international students from germany in the freshman class, 1 from Bensheim and 1 Hanover.

If you look through the common data set you will see the number of international students in each class

for the class of 2009 -59 international students in attendance

for the class of 2008 -54 international students in attendance

for the class of 2007 -61 international students in attendance

this is not to say that every international student admitted to dartmouth decided to attend (as there will be some overlap with students being admitted to multiple schools and choosing those schools). However on a whole the number to be admitted is small.
