I have also been selected to receive both Air Force and Navy ROTC scholarships, and both UC Davis and UC San Diego have been notified of this.

UC schools applied to:

UC Davis
UC San Diego

Other Schools applied to:

U.S. Air Force Academy (2 congressional nominations, academically qualified)
U.S. Naval Academy (2 congressional nominations, academically qualified)
Embry-Ridlde Aeronautical University
University of Nevada (accepted)
Penn State

Basically better than most grades, lots of athletics/extracurriculars, and a good amount of leadership experience. I have been told by my academy interviewers i am the epitome of a "well rounded" individual. Really curious about my chances being an out of state student, but having money to attend UC schools.

Really hard to say without a UC calculated GPA.

Your SAT scores are well belwo median for both schools, so your UC GPA needs to be considerably higher for a good shot.

If the UC GPA is your grade 10 and 11 grades with only 8 honors added, then my UC GPA is 3.82. If i am wrong on how to calculate the UC GPA, plz let me know.

Also, the median numbers for Davis are:
English: 490-630 (My score is in the lower end of that range)
Math: 540-660 (I am above this entire range)
Writing: 500-630 (I am in the upper-median of this range)

For UCSD, my English score isn’t in the median range, my math is in the upper range, and my writing is in the lower end. I am below the median a bit, but I do not think I am “well below” for UCSD. As for Davis, I am at the median or a little above it.

When I retook the SAT’s, i received these scores:
English: 550
Math: 640
Writing: 620
They do not have these scores on file, because they were taken in January, after the deadline.

That being said, with a UC GPA of 3.82, those median SAT scores, my heavy extracurriculars and good leadership, I believe I have a better shot at Davis than San Diego, but I’d like some outside imput

Bump

forgot to add the “I will chance you back!!!” part, just leave a link

I dont know much about UC Davis but I would say that UC SD is a low reach.

You have an okay shot at Davis, because you’re in their ideal GPA range and your scores are not terribly below range there. Sort of the same case with San Diego. The key fact to remember here is that UCSD has a 97% in-state freshman class, as well as UCD. You really have to make yourself stand out amongst that flood of in-state kids if you want to be accepted. All that said, they are in the high match-low reach range. So there are my two cents. Good luck!

I think you look good for both UCs, especially Davis. I’ve seen girls at my school get in with lower. I don’t know a lot about the two military academy (I have a very smart friend who is West Point-bound though.) Embry Riddle in Prescott? You’ll most likely get in!
Good luck, you seem like a great student!
Now go out and have fun! I keep reminding myself that wherever I go, I’ll be happy. Because college is what you make out of it.

Go to UCpathways.com to calculate UC GPA. It requires backing out non core courses too.

Here are stats for those admitted to UC’s last year. You’ll note your stats are below median at both schools. Given that you’re OOS, they will typically need to be higher than in state medians.

[UC Admissions Statistics](http://www.ophs.opusd.k12.ca.us/uc_admissions_statistics.htm)

That said, the UC’s need more people paying OOS rates during this budget crisis and some do plan to accept more OOS students for that reason this year. On the other hand, both of these schools will take fewer freshmen this year because of the budget crisis.

So while your chances are not good based on stats, Davis especially doesn’t get many OOS applicants and if they want your $43K badly enough, who knows what this admissions season will bring?

Pros:
Your extracurriculars show commitment because you’ve been part of them for a good number of years.

Good amount of leadership experiences.

10 Ap courses shows you challenged yourself with a rigorous course load

Cons:
Critical Reading score is pretty low. This really hurts you if any of the schools disregard Writing…
Here is a list published by Kaplan in i believe 2007 (so idk how accurate it is.)
[KAPLAN EXCLUSIVE: New SAT Scoring Policies from 374 Top Schools](http://www.kaptest.com/Kaplan/Article/College/SAT/Learn-About-the-SAT/CO_sat_surveyresults.html;jsessionid=FCEWCVZ44TXKBLA3AQJXBM3MDUCBE2HC)

I dont know much about the ACT so only considering sat scores solely for your standardized test, I would guess

UC DAVIS your uw GPA falls short of their average, but of course your classes were rigorous… your sat math score is in good range, your CR is in the bottom part of their 50% range.

I say you have a pretty good shot at getting in…

UC S.D.
They are more competitive… I wouldn’t bet on it, but it isnt an outrageous reach…

** Penn State**
…100% accepted

unless its main campus then I’d say you are competitive. You’d still get in in my opinion.

I am not too sure about the rest of the schools

Hope that was good enough for you =]
and thanks for your opinion on my thread.

UC Davis: Seems like a good match, but out of state makes it tough… match/high match.
UC San Diego: Low or medium reach, particularly since you’re OOS.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University: I’d say you’re in.
Penn State: Match.

Also, what’s your major?

Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering is my first choice, followed by Mechanical Engineering. My Navy ROTC scholarship is very specific in allowed majors, but if I wasn’t bound by those limitations my 3rd choice would be BioMed Engineering

I don’t know if they’ll handle OOS students the same way, but if they can’t accommodate in state students at the UC’s they applied to this year, they’ll offer them spots at Riverside or Merced if possible. Your stats are fine for those, even in engineering which generally requires higher stats than the school’s median. Do those 2 have your major?

I dont know much about the UCs except that they are comprised of like ~95% in state freshman
Penn st-Match

You have good ECs and involvement, but your academics are a bit lacking. Your SATs aren’t terrible, but they are a bit on the low side. But, here is where I apologize — I know nothing about the UCs…lol, sorry! Perhaps a high match/low reach?

UC Davis: High match (only because you’re OOS)
UC San Diego: Low reach
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University: Low match/safety
Penn State: Low match

Yes, both UC schools have my major, as well as all of the other schools on my list

I’d have to agreee with popular opinion on this one. Your SAT’s and grades are just a bit low, but your EC’s are very good. I think any school would be more than happy to accept you based on those stats. That being said, schools like Air Force might be tough, I don’t know much about their academic qualifications, but I would probably call that a low reach for you. Penn State you’ll definitely get in that’s no problem.

Anyway, good luck man. And thanks for chancing me before about Notre Dame. Appreciate your help

UPDATE:

Was ■■■■■■■■ when calculating UC GPA. used the 8 bonus honor’s credit points WAY wrong, and i left out some classes.

My UC GPA is: 3.95

sorry for the incompetence

Yeah, man thanks for the chance- I really don’t know anything about the UC’s other than like berkley and ucla. I also know its like crazy hard out of state but i would agree with BKHAN, you seem like a good match at PSU if you get those SAT’s up to like 1800-1900 range.
