Chances for an out-of-stater

Here are my stats:

SAT: 1360 (700 M, 660 V)
GPA: 2.72 (I know, it's very low, but I had a 3.2 junior year, a 3.1 first term senior year which was on my transcript, and I go to a private school with major grade deflation. Also, my school doesn't weigh grades.)
ECs: I'm the editor of the sports section of my school newspaper and I do Model UN. I know I don't have too many ECs, but I think I have quality over quantity.
I'm out-of-state (from New York)
I'm also Hispanic if that makes a difference or not, but I can't speak any Spanish (and they will know that when they look at my grades in that class!)

I have 2 good teacher recommendations and a good counselor recommendation (well, at least the people who wrote them said they were good, I didn't read them.)

I applied to McCombs as a first choice and Liberal Arts (Government) as a second. However, I regret putting McCombs down (I know I'll get rejected from that anyway) and I think I'm better off majoring in Government anyway.

So, do I have any chance or not? Right now I'm not too confident in my chances but I'm really hoping I get in, I'll probably go if I'm accepted.

wow, same boat as me. Good luck. AND DONT TAKE MY SPOT! lol

i think you'll get into govn't

You might get into Gov't, its hard for out of state though. My SAT scores were similar (1370) and I had a higher GPA (3.5) but I still didn't get in. BTW - I also went to a academically rigorous school (Bronx Science) and took 5 APs. It will be hard for you, they look more at your GPA and class rank than SATs.

UT doesn't look at GPA

Boomer, if you didn't get in, then I shouldn't get in. Bronx Science is way better than my school (mine isn't bad, but it isn't one of the top notch private schools); I actually wanted to go to Stuyvesant really badly in 8th grade but I didn't get in (I've usually been pretty good on standardized tests, that was probably the only one I ever did badly on, I didn't even get into any of the 3 specialized schools.) Your stats make me feel like a rejection letter will be coming my way from UT.

TourJette: How can they not look at GPA? I know rank is very important at UT, and my school doesn't rank.

Just checked my status and got rejected. I really wanted to go to UT Austin but life goes on. If I didn't get in, it means that I shouldn't be going there anyway.

Sorry to hear, Tucson is a good city too and UofA will have lots to do. Whatever you choose, at least you won't have snow anymore :) Good luck

Sorry to hear, good luck with the rest of your schools. I think this also bodes poorly for me as well, because I have a lower SAT and no recommendations.

I am also an out of state applicant and got rejected today. 4.1/5 gpa and a 1340 sat and 690, 690, 680 sat II. No class rank but I go to the #1 public high school in MA.

Looks to me like had I not applied and got accepted the year before, I wouldn't have gotten in this year.
